What an incredible traffic jam- WASHINGTON (7News) — A D.C. Police officer was injured after being hit by a vehicle along a portion of Interstate 695 near Southwest late Tuesday night, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. Officials said the officer was on foot when a driver struck him, with other officers responding to the scene on Eastbound I-695 near the I-395/Third Street tunnel. The officer was found unconscious, while the driver was also injured and remained at the scene, officials said. The officer has since been taken to the hospital, and police are investigating the incident as a Major Crash case. Travel impacts are expected to remain overnight.

Note: On December 23, 2025, around 10:10 p.m., a Metropolitan Police Department officer was struck by a vehicle while on foot in the eastbound lanes of I-695, just past the 3rd Street Tunnel in Southwest D.C. The officer appeared unresponsive and was quickly transported to a hospital for treatment. The driver remained at the scene, cooperated with authorities, and was also injured. MPD's Major Crash Unit is investigating; all eastbound lanes were closed for hours.
