Something no one really talks about. As soon as you get off the flat range the simple things that impede your vision are impressive. This little bit of grass in-front of me made a 150m shot with a red dot unbelievably challenging to continue to find the target, even... show more

Sterile flat range deceives a lot of people

It really does and it’s either not talked about enough, or it is talked about and no one cares. 🤷🏻♂️

yup; this is why @Nutnfancy has been walking around with tall sticks for 20 years

I’ve found the same while hunting, the smallest branch or leaf can throw you off massively.

You have to eat all of the grass to establish dominance

This is particularly true of thermals as well. In the Midwest, they're literal God powers On the hills of Appalachia, you gotta be super careful about your capability

TLDR - don't rely range practice, get into the field.

Both

@sumdumgoyim Always take a lawn mower with you.

@sumdumgoyim EDC lawn mower

This is why I only shoot beer cans in the woods.

Stage at a nrl22 style match i did this year had a small diamond plate in a thick patch of grass like that in the shade. Everyone had a hard time with it even though it seemed easy as hell.

Tacticool bros need to go out and spend some legitimate time with legitimate hunters. I PROMISE it will improve your at-range marksmanship significantly. Signed - a dude who's shot deer at distances TONS of dude haven't been able to hit paper or steel.

different environments create different needs though. only time this would be useful to me is if I went to a park. What I have to worry about are tight building corners, narrow pathways/streets, long empty alleyways, staircases, balconies, etc. my threats would never hide on a hill around grass, that environment doesn't exist near me lol

This becomes very obvious once you start bow hunting especially put east...you almost can't shoot from your knees without rye or wheat being in your way..have to stand up and expose yourself when you take shots

This is why hunting is a great skill builder.

Push the grass to the side retard

Take the high ground Mow it clear

PUBG taught me this.

This is why you need an underbarrel flame thrower

Bow hunting on the ground makes diligent men count stems.

I'm jealous. It bothers my roomates so I need a can (blm land was working ok until the recent fires, now its illeagal unless I hunting)

Every shooter should have a mezkins to clear your fields if fire

Do you think a low mag optic would have made that shot much easier. Not in sense that it's easier to shoot farther with magnification but in that you could look through the grass much easier.

This is why all the fag larping by leftists around election time shooting shit-tier Temu ARs on a bench like that’s something?? lol.

this is why i carry a flame thrower as my secondary

Usually I rip out the grass a couple feet in front of my lane of fire. Though, since most of my alpine shooting is done while hunting, I would probably be carrying shooting sticks instead of using a bipod...or just have both.

It is a great revelation to many because so many people have never, nor do they really have the means to shoot in uncurated environments like this. Never take for granted the wide open spaces we have in the west.

Always carry some snippets some to cut not slice so you can do it slow less movement

Magnification is a super power and after shooting a ton in the woods and at combat style matches all my rifles have it in some form.

The other thing is no one really understands just how much that grass can alter POI down range if you have to shoot through brush.

Now imagine what a 6 inch lip would do if youre trying to fire at a downward angle from a couple feet back from the ledge....

Dots are fantastic l love dots. But on a wireless hole puncher that can reach out 500 yards+, magnification is king. Magnification and field of view. Magnification, field of view, and durability. Its why acog is so beloved

Tactical, rail mounted weed eaters.

This is why I like pass thru sights on the same plane…

It was definitely worthwhile to share. Thank you
