"Sometimes I just go nuts" The exploding fish tank scene in Lethal Weapon 2 (1989) is peak Riggs (Mel Gibson). He's evolved from frantic chaos to calm, icy menace by this stage. Gibson reportedly ad-libbed the “Hey Moe!” gag, fearlessly laughing while staring down armed killers.

!["A Fish called Wanda" (1988)- A movie that's so funny that a man literally laughed himself to death while watching this scene: In 1989, when "A Fish called Wanda" (1988) was shown in theaters in Denmark, a Danish man named Ole Bentzen, an audiologist, literally laughed himself to death during the scene where Ken [Sir Michael Palin] gets the chips up his nose. Bentzen's heart rate went between two hundred fifty and five hundred beats per minute and he eventually succumbed to cardiac arrest. The story behind this is that the man had made a joke a few years earlier with his family during dinner, where he put a piece of cauliflower up his and every family member's nose as a joke and made a bet with them on who could eat up their carrots without the cauliflower falling out. When the scene with Ken Pile and the chips came up, he started thinking about this dinner incident and laughed so hard that his heart stopped. This story is well-known in Scandinavia and spread around as almost an "urban legend" shortly after it happened. It was confirmed by his son, who also told the dinner story as an explanation to why his father laughed so hard during the chips scene that he died. In 2018, John Cleese too confirmed it. In his interview to Vanity Fair, he said, "He [Ole Bentzen] started laughing after about 15 minutes in, and literally never stopped. We tried to contact his widow, because we wondered about using this in the publicity. I think we decided it was in too bad taste. I mean, we all have to go. And I think laughing yourself to death is a nice way to do it." ![Richard Donner explains how he managed to include the Anti-Apartheid message in "Lethal Weapon 2" (1989) & why entertainment should always come first- even in message films: "Interviewer: From the process of a chase now to the ideological content, a lot of this movie that anti-apartheid message is loud and clear. What is your philosophy about a message in an entertainment film as opposed to a documentary? Donner: If you want to deliver a message and you're a total believer and you make a message film, you must realize [that] you have a very limited audience. And that's too bad because you have a message to get across. If you you're restricting your audience to that message film you are going to restrict your message you're not going to get it out there. There was a wonderful home made last year called 'A World Apart' (1988) starring Barbara Hershey. It was Chris Menges second film and I thought it was probably the most brilliant direction of the year. I thought [the little girl's] performance certainly deserved acknowledgement by the Academy. Menges's did; the picture did. Nobody saw it [the movie] nobody acknowledged it. It's a sick industry. So, I decided when we had lethal weapon and originally it was written that the heavies were Colombians. I was bored with it and I said, "Jeff let's get something else; let's come up with something a little original." So we [thought] who are the heavies out there? If this was 1942, it would be the Nazis. Where [are] the Nazis [now]. They're in South Africa running the government; so if they're in South Africa let's make them the heavies. On top of it, let's show diplomatic immunity so I can have a Mel Gibson carry an anti-apartheid sign. You can have a diplomatic immunity that's happening in the USA and all the nations that are signatories to it and then you see guys that have committed child m*lest@t!on [and with] diplomatic immunity and they get at home hand slapping sent out of the country. So, we got across a few messages under the guise of entertainment. We got to crush the fact that if you eat tuna, you're ki*ll*ng the dolphins and I get my little and makes me feel good but it's under the guise of entertainment. Interviewer: During all of this, have you defined what best can be done in a Hollywood picture? In other words by combining those priorities? Donner: Yeah, i think so. It makes the filmmaker a little happier for what he's done if he can do something a little more; than just to do an entertainment film with no message whatsoever. Our message in this film is primarily it's a good film; have some laughs, love Mel and Danny. It's good entertainment. You feel good at the end of it and you feel up. That's all I want to do. I'm an entertainer, but if in to within that moment of entertainment if I can sneak one little line in, one little thought, provoke one anxiety in somebody, I'm thrilled." ![The targeting foul against Zack Orr of NCC Football has been overturned, and he will be eligible to start in Saturday's #d3fb National Semifinal vs. Susquehanna Football at 3:30pm EST / 2:30pm CST. I spoke with Steve Shaw, the NCAA's National Coordinator of Officials, about the overturn this morning. Note that the provision in question is whether or not Springfield Football QB Drew Heenan qualified under the rules as a "defenseless player," as the following is one such definition in the NCAA Football Rulebook: "A ball carrier already in the grasp of an opponent and whose forward progress has been stopped." If a defenseless player is hit in the neck or head region by an opponent, then targeting is a proper call under the rules. Steve said: “We’re very clear that he's not defenseless until he is down. And if you go back and look at the video on the play…he's wrapped up and he's going down. And the contact is with [the] runner just as he's going to the ground. So he really has not transitioned to a defenseless player yet. You know, you can make the argument that, well, if he's wrapped up, he's defenseless and he can't really defend himself. But from a replay perspective, we needed a bright line that that was not a judgment, but a bright line. And that is, [he] has to be down, considered down before he's defenseless….He's just beginning to go down and be down. And so we wouldn't consider him down at the time that he's hit. And there's no crown of the helmet involved. The helmet is clearly to the side. And so, from a replay perspective, rules are very clear. You've got to be able to confirm all aspects of targeting for it to be targeting. You couldn't confirm that he was down and then hit. So we didn't give him defenseless status....And that's why the targeting was overturned.” Steve also taught me about something that is important. While regular replay reviews can come out as "confirmed," "overturned," or "stands" (which means that there is not conclusive evidence to overturn, but there isn't a full confirmation of the original call either), targeting calls do not have a "stands" option when they are reviewed. In other words, they are viewed anew and either every element necessary for targeting must be confirmed, or it is overturned. Think of it as being innocent until proven guilty in the review process for targeting. In this case, he was clear to underscore that the elements could have been argued to have existed, but it would have, at best, been a "call stands" decision, which is not sufficient to uphold a targeting call. Steve also expressed the hopes that the instant replay model that has been developed and used in Division 2 will become more utilized in Division 3, related to more-universal instant replay using a coaches' challenge approach (except for targeting), much like we saw in the Centennial Conference this year. He understands the challenges, but he also feels that having two HD camera angles plus the normal web stream (basically at least three cameras) is sufficient to embrace the needs of instant replay. He is not in favor of a D1 type of replay at the lower levels because of the desire to not have constant game interruptions and more technological challenges at the lower levels than we see at D1 -- he stressed his support of a coaches' challenge system in our conversation multiple times.
