The stinging makes no sense. You sting to protect yourself but it turns out to be an act of suicide.

Bee swarms usually rest when they land on a car and don’t plan to move in. Driving off can separate the queen from the swarm, so it’s best to park and call a beekeeper to help relocate them

So next time when you find a nest of ground bees, don’t try to get rid of them – they may be helping you more than hurting you.
