Having fresh fruit and vegetables on the Space Station is a rare treat. Space food requires a long shelf life so we only receive fresh fruits or vegetables during a new crew arrival or a resupply mission. Having a tangible reminder of life on Earth is a morale booster and a welcome addition to a somewhat repetitive menu. But for future astronauts on deep space missions this luxury simply won't exist. That's why space agencies are investing in plant growth systems and sustainable food solutions that can help support astronauts on future missions.

3000 to 4000 Calgarians line up for free Potatoes and other food items every time the Guru Nanak free kitchen has an event. A true testament to just how bad things are getting in Canada. Some of the individuals here have zero food in the fridge. Thankfully there are initiatives like this to help out the ever growing number of Canadians who can’t afford food.
