Years before Sonic Mania Adventures debuted, there had been an attempt to start an animated shorts initiative, but it didn't go anywhere because they were working on Sonic Boom. #SonicNews Chao were one of the characters they wanted to see in short form. Jasmine Hernandez didn't want that dream to die, so she kept pushing for them to be in shorts, which eventually led to Chao in Space and Chao Tales. Chao Tales had been pitched as a vertical video series, in a bid to reach new audiences.
