Sorry doesn't fix years of hurt

I’m a very simple person. If I said I’m sorry and you don’t forgive me, I won’t force you because I know how it feels to be in the receiving end of the hurt. we can’t put timelines on people’s healing process. Some people never heal, we can’t expect people to “just get over it”

Healing is a process it doesn't just happen it takes time

Yall can’t expect people who made mistakes to keep saying sorry even after they changed. Yall need to heal and grow up or stay miserable!

You don't expect a hurt person to heal immediately she hears sorry. It doesn't work that way

Her mother is a narcissistic woman. They get in public and do all of that dramatics but behind close doors they continue to do the same crap or similar which means they dont' change and they're extremly disrespectful, just not as bad as before & they get others 2 disresp u.

The question is this, why wait to apologise in the public when it's something you would have done at home. It's not like her mum is just getting to know that her daughter is hurt

No one has to accept your apology. Throwing your hands up and saying I'm done saying sorry means it was never a real sorry to begin with. Saying you had a hard childhood too means nothing. Feeling bad about what you did ≠ atoning for what you've done, and maybe you never can.

Narcissistic people love a show and they want the other person to yell or speak out like this woman, her daughter b/c it makes her look like the troublemaker and the one with the problem b/c she's unforgiving when in actuality the woman hasn't really changed.

Anyone that has feelings will understand how deeply hurt the daughter is and will know that her mum hurt her badly

@AdithaLee So what is the mother suppose to do at this point? Kill herself?

@AdithaLee She should give her daughter time to heal

@Nazcouture So true, that's why they needed separation and a counselor would need to help the daughter to not be so co-dependent b/c that's one of the reasons also for the rage fit. An adult child whose been abused stay stuck in the mother daughter nurturance cycle b/c they never receive it.

Sounds like her daughter needs to work on her own trauma. Mother said sorry there is nothing else she can say or do. She needs to stop trying to make her mother hurt for her mistakes.

It is a tough situation that so many people go through. Mom has tried to atone for what she did and daughter still can't seem to forgive her and let it go. I think Mom should not give up on her daughter and the daughter will hopefully work on letting go of resentment because it will make her life much better. She needs to do it for herself.

Jill Scott is an amazing actress!!!!!!

I think this was a great scene…cause ppl truly need to see both aspects “sorry” will never be enough, but also if you choose to stay around and we working to healing holding someone to where they were never helps

She came out of that darkness that had a hold on her for a long time and she's apologizing for all the hurt she caused her. What else does she want? How bout she just kill herself? Would that make her feel better? I mean damn, she spoke her truth in front of the church. FORGIVE!!

Her daughter is not asking her to kill herself . She's letting her know that sorry doesn't automatically make her feel OK for all the years of hurt she caused her. Apologising in the crowd makes no difference if it is not genuinely from the heart.

You can’t keep punishing a person for the same sin

Sorry is not enough. People will say sorry and repeat their behavior to you. People are tired of hearing sorry from sorry ass people. Trauma doesn't go away with an simple sorry . That abandonment wasn't just her being gone for a week. But an child having to defend herself.

That's one of the worse things any child can go through

What’s the name Of movie I want to watch

So my thing is, at a certain point, if a person is actively trying to change and is constantly apologizing, there’s really nothing else they can do. If you’re still not satisfied, that’s valid but that’s up to YOU to fix via therapy or something. The other person can’t fix you.

It's very depressing b/c they don't really seem to ever want any legitimate closure and forgiveness which is acknowledging you have issues, you two getting counseling and working on not making disrespectful choices & then the victim works on forgiveness.

The victim working on forgiveness is something that will require time and patience knowing fully well that her mum would have avoided those wrong choices she made but still decided to choose wrongly without considering her.

What makes it so bad is that narcissistic ppl will treat those they like on the outside w/respect, help them, pray for them etc. while still abusing a scapegoat behind close doors so if that scapegoat/trouble maker says something they're the crazy one & everyone gangs up against.

But what was putting yal business in front of everyone going to solve anyway.... Personally I think if people not going to move on, apologies shouldn't be needed or necessary

They think they're not supposed to really change and do theatrical acting infront of everyone saying they're "Sorry" over and over again without any change & the abuse is supposed to still happen and alot of gaslighting and mindgames.

It's better than denial and disregard. Sorry is better than continued dysfunctional behavior. It's better than never stopping or not changing. Sorry is a start! The past happened, can't change it but you can move forward & that starts with a sorry.

Nicole Beharie is so good in this movie.. So I underrated as an actress . But seriously I know how she feel about your mother not being there for you when you were younger. she want a tone for all the mistakes she made sometimes that stuff it's not easily to let go of

What movie is this

I don’t know you have to give people time. Now how much time? That depends. But she’s right most people never get that sorry or admissions of wrongdoing. Ever. But apologies don’t make up for a childhood full of trauma.

Well thats why there's forgiveness, if you dont forgiveness then you'll walk around filled with anger whilst the person that apologised lives their best life

Saying sorry multiple times is not gonna change the course of history, especially when you’re making a scene at church, it’s all for show and performative

So she go to church to crash out crazy work

That walk out was a mother of the church walk.

she should’ve just told her mama she wanna fight and never spoke to her again, not going back and forth with NOBODY!

Her mother still sounds like a terrible person

This is deep
