The opposition will be led by the white supremacist DA which will likely have more votes than the EFF. ORANIA: THE WHITES-ONLY TOWN IN SOUTH AFRICA In 2024, South Africans were among the more than 3-billion people who went to the polls in more than 60 countries in national elections. For South Africa, the elections had historical significance - they came at a time when the country was marking three decades since the end of apartheid. When apartheid ended in 1994, many Black South Africans had high expectations about what the future held for them after centuries of social and economic exclusion. Decades later, the African National Congress (ANC), which has governed the country since 1994, is facing accusations of not doing enough to dismantle apartheid-era socio-economic structures and injustices. Nothing exemplifies this better than the existence of Orania, a Whites-only town in the country's Northern Cape province. The town has been a source of tension since its establishment in the early '90s during the last days of apartheid. The town's founders and residents claim its purpose is to preserve the culture and identity of the Afrikaner people, White South Africans of mostly Dutch, French and German descent. However, many people think the town and its policy of not allowing non-White residents is nothing but a racist endeavour to maintain some vestiges of the apartheid system. The town's residents insist that its existence is protected by Article 235 of the South African constitution, which guarantees self-determination. However, many have argued that the cited part of the constitution does not, in fact, permit people of a particular religious or cultural group to live in a secluded place away from other South Africans. In 2000, the Northern Cape High Court adjourned 'sine die' (without a further hearing date) after Orania's proponents challenged attempts by the government to incorporate the town into the nearby municipal authority. COMRADES, the rise of the #EFF was a direct confrontation to racism and AfriForum has now confirmed that CIC Julius Sello Malema is doing the right thing. Only a white Afrikaner-owned party is screaming because they are uncomfortable and they cannot watch the EFF take the black majority. Let it be known, we are the EFF and the EFF is us. We will never support AfriForum. Africa belongs to Africans and to those who respect it. If AfriForum cannot respect that then they must go back to where they came from. We will not be bullied by AfriForum and we will not allow AfriForum to sink our ship. We are fighters and we will fight until the last breath. [WATCH] The question before the Court is short, and it is a question of law. When a political party has completed the Commission’s prescribed forms and uploaded its lists onto the Commission’s own system before the hour, has that party submitted its lists? The movement says it has. The Commission says it has not. That is a disagreement between a political party and a public institution about what a statute means, and this country built a specialist court for precisely that. The Electoral Court will decide it. The ANC will abide by what the courts decide. I say that now, before judgment, so that nobody need ask afterwards. I want to address the judgment the Electoral Court handed down on Friday in the matter of the UDF Party, because it has been reported as a blow to the ANC. The Court held that the Commission has no power to exempt one party from a deadline that binds all others. The African National Congress agrees with that. We have never asked for an exemption. We have never asked for an extension. We are not asking for one now. What the UDF asked for and what the ANC asks for are different things, and Friday’s judgment is the clearest statement yet of that difference. And to those who have warned the Commission against giving the ANC “preferential treatment”, I say this plainly. The ANC wants none. Whatever relief the Court grants, the movement has asked that it apply to every affected party on the same terms — to the forty-four other parties as much as to us. If the ANC succeeds, two thousand and ninety-three candidates who are not ours succeed with us. That is the only kind of relief this movement would accept. Now let me speak about the Electoral Commission again. The Electoral Commission is a Chapter Nine institution of our Constitution. The African National Congress, more than any other organisation in this country, argued for it, negotiated it and built it. Through seven national elections and six local elections, the ANC has accepted every substantive result the Commission has declared — including the result of 2024, which took from this movement the majority it had held for thirty years. We accepted it on the night. We did not go to a stage and call the Commission a thief. That record is who we are, and it is not for sale in a dispute over six councils. So let me be clear about what the ANC is doing and what it is not doing. The ANC is not attacking the Electoral Commission. The ANC disagrees with the Commission on a point of law, and it has taken that disagreement to the court that Parliament created to hear it. Disagreement in a court is how a democracy respects an institution. Disagreement on a stage, with slogans, is how a democracy weakens one. The movement has chosen the court, respectfully. There are parties in this country who have used this matter to relitigate their own grievances against the Commission. The ANC will not join them, and it will not be used by them. Where the Commission is attacked for doing its work, this movement will defend it, as it has always defended it. We have a responsibility to the institutions of this state that the Commission’s other critics do not carry, and we will carry it even while we are in court against it. And there is a responsibility on all of us that goes beyond this matter. Forty-five parties used one channel and had challenges. That is a fact about the channel, whatever the Court decides about the law. After this election the ANC will go to the Party Liaison Committee and propose, for every party, that the electronic route carry a receipt; that its final step be prescribed in regulation, published in the Gazette, where every party can read it, and not only in software; and that a party be able to see the record of what the Commission holds from it. Diplomatic crisis with the US is in no one’s interest: The civil rights organisation AfriForum says the current diplomatic crisis with the US is not in anyone’s interest in South Africa and could have been prevented if the ANC leadership had not ignored AfriForum and the Solidarity Movement’s efforts to help find solutions. AfriForum emphasises that, as an organisation, it remains committed to helping find solutions to this crisis in the best interest of everyone in the country. According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, ANC leaders have so far actively prevented attempts to find solutions by, among other things, inviting the Iranian ambassador to the ANC headquarters and making anti-American statements. “Ronald Lamola, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, acted directly against South Africa’s interests by publicly accusing President Donald Trump of having a ‘white supremacy’ agenda, despite his role as minister to promote international relations. Lamola disregarded the possibility of retaliation for his statements, and now we are all reaping the bitter fruits of that,” says Kriel. Referring to Trump’s latest statements on social media about farm murders and property rights, Kriel says that concrete steps must be taken to combat farm murders and protect property rights, as this is the best way to tackle these issues. According to Kriel, AfriForum has therefore already made several proposals to the ANC’s leaders to serve as solutions in this regard. AfriForum proposes, among other things, the following solutions for combating farm murders and protecting property rights: Farm Murders • President Ramaphosa should be urged to unconditionally condemn the “Kill the Boer” chant, which is a call for ethnic violence against Afrikaners. • The South African government should at least acknowledge the fact that farm murders are accompanied by excessive torture and violence. • Farm murders should be declared a priority crime, as is already the case with numerous other crimes, including rhino poaching. • The government should decide that the South African Police Service (SAPS) should officially and in a planned manner collaborate with farm and neighbourhood watches nationwide that operate within the framework of the law. Expropriation Act • The South African government must commit itself to protecting property rights. • Section 12(3) of the Expropriation Act, which allows for expropriation without compensation, must be revoked. • Section 19(2) of the Expropriation Act, which allows for expropriation to take place before a court decision is reached, must be amended.

Breaking News: Julius Sello Malema has just been found guilty of unlawfully discharging a firearm in a built-up area and the other four charges against him. AfriForum had already laid the criminal charge against Malema with the police in August 2018. The conviction is a welcome development in AfriForum’s longstanding struggle to ensure that no one in South Africa is untouchable or above the law. Justice is finally being served, even if it sometimes takes a very long time due to South Africa’s flawed criminal justice system. Until now, the state has been reluctant to prosecute Malema in connection with, among others, the On Point and VBS corruption scandals.
