#lagunafire #VCFD and our partner agencies Ventura City Fire, Oxnard Fire, and Federal Fire Ventura County continue an aggressive attack on the fire burning off Laguna Road in the Oxnard plains. The fire is currently estimated at 15 acres. VCSO has issued evacuation orders for the Cal State Channel Islands Campus and fire resources are in place evaluating any potential structure threats. Residents are encouraged to follow and download the Watch Duty app for the latest evacuation updates and fire information. Approximately 400 Firefighters will remain on scene through the night, continuing to provide structure protection and knock down hot spots. There are no reported structures damaged or destroyed. However, as fire activity continues to pick up - that could change due to public safety concerns. SET evac orders are in place for residents in the river corridor in Ft. Thomas area. Full suppression tactics are being used, including firing Ops to box the fire in, which also reduces exposure for resources in the steeps. A community meeting will be held tomorrow in Payson to update the local residents on the fire. It is suspected to be human caused and an investigation continues. SW Area IMT 1 will assume command of the fire. Thanks to the subscriber who shared this breathtaking view of the Horton Fire. 🙏 The fire was mapped at 1,074 acres.

There are currently 2,420 personnel on scene, including 378 engines, 20 Water Tenders, 34 Hand Crews, 17 Dozers and 14 helicopters. VCFD is in unified command with CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 5 and we are incredibly grateful for the support of our mutual aid partners. Damage assessment teams are in process of identifying and verifying the number of structures that have been impacted. Our thoughts are with all of members of our local Ventura County community through this devastating incident. The fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain with dry and receptive fuels that continue to challenge containment efforts. Fire activity has decreased due to a decrease in winds over the area. A large animal evacuation center has been established at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara. A public information hotline has been established. Affected residents can call 805-465-6650 for assistance. Evacuation orders remain in place. Residents are encouraged to visit for the most current evacuation information. An evacuation center has been setup at Padre Serra Parrish at 5205 Upland Rd in Camarillo.
