Aspen Acres Fire Update: The fire has grown to approximately 85,000 acres today, prompting evacuation orders for Colorado City, Wetmore, Bishop Castle, and several other communities throughout the surrounding area. The good news is that there are currently no red flag warnings in effect, which should help limit extreme fire behavior, and, fingers crossed, the area gets some much-needed moisture today as storms will fire up in Southeast Colorado.

The fire is currently estimated at 15 acres. VCSO has issued evacuation orders for the Cal State Channel Islands Campus and fire resources are in place evaluating any potential structure threats. Several individuals have been injured and transported to local hospitals. Numerous structures are currently threatened. Due to extreme wind conditions, fixed-wing aircraft are unable to assist in firefighting efforts. #kennethfire; Forward progress of the Kenneth fire has been stopped, and the fire is currently holding at 960 acres with 0% containment. Approximately 400 Firefighters will remain on scene through the night, continuing to provide structure protection and knock down hot spots. There are no reported structures damaged or destroyed. All evacuation orders in Los Angeles County have been reduced to evacuation warnings. Evacuation warnings issued in Ventura County have been lifted.

Arizona: The Bryce Fire continues to be active this afternoon with more resources arriving throughout the day. At this time, US 70 is open. However, as fire activity continues to pick up - that could change due to public safety concerns. SET evac orders are in place for residents in the river corridor in Ft. Thomas area. Arizona looks plenty ready for wildfire now. Thanks to the subscriber who shared this view of today’s Fire activity.

Arizona: A great look at the terrain crews and Fire Managers are working with on the Horton Fire. Full suppression tactics are being used, including firing Ops to box the fire in, which also reduces exposure for resources in the steeps. A community meeting will be held tomorrow in Payson to update the local residents on the fire. It is suspected to be human caused and an investigation continues. SW Area IMT 1 will assume command of the fire. Thanks to the subscriber who shared this breathtaking view of the Horton Fire. 🙏 The fire was mapped at 1,074 acres.

There are currently 2,420 personnel on scene, including 378 engines, 20 Water Tenders, 34 Hand Crews, 17 Dozers and 14 helicopters. VCFD is in unified command with CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 5 and we are incredibly grateful for the support of our mutual aid partners. Damage assessment teams are in process of identifying and verifying the number of structures that have been impacted. Our thoughts are with all of members of our local Ventura County community through this devastating incident. The fire is burning in steep, rugged terrain with dry and receptive fuels that continue to challenge containment efforts. Fire activity has decreased due to a decrease in winds over the area. A large animal evacuation center has been established at the Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara. A public information hotline has been established. Affected residents can call 805-465-6650 for assistance. Evacuation orders remain in place. Residents are encouraged to visit for the most current evacuation information. An evacuation center has been setup at Padre Serra Parrish at 5205 Upland Rd in Camarillo.
