🇷🇺 RUSSIA LOSES ITS ONLY MANNED SPACE LAUNCHPAD AFTER ROCKET DAMAGES SITE Russia just launched 3 astronauts to the International Space Station - and accidentally blew a hole in its space program in the process. A Soyuz rocket took off from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Thursday, carrying a NASA astronaut and 2 Russian cosmonauts. The mission reached orbit safely, but the launchpad did not. Part of the structure collapsed during liftoff, forcing Russia to halt all future crewed launches from the site until repairs can be made. That’s a big deal - it’s their only launchpad for sending humans to space. Roscosmos says it has the parts and will make repairs "in the near future," but independent analysts aren’t so sure. Critical infrastructure was reportedly destroyed. This marks the first time since 1961 that Russia has no working launchpad for human spaceflight - a serious blow to its space ambitions, especially as it plans to build its own space station by 2030. The Exploration Company just completed a major drop test of its reusable Nix space capsule, designed to carry cargo (and eventually astronauts) to low Earth orbit. The capsule was lifted by a Chinook helicopter to 9,100 feet before testing its parachute deployment sequence. Watching a future spacecraft dangling from a military helicopter is pretty cool.
