A Soyuz rocket took off from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Thursday, carrying a NASA astronaut and 2 Russian cosmonauts. The mission reached orbit safely, but the launchpad did not. Part of the structure collapsed during liftoff, forcing Russia to halt all future crewed launches from the site until repairs can be made. That’s a big deal - it’s their only launchpad for sending humans to space. Roscosmos says it has the parts and will make repairs "in the near future," but independent analysts aren’t so sure. Critical infrastructure was reportedly destroyed.
