Rocket Lab just built a rocket that competes directly with SpaceX Falcon 9. This is Neutron a Reusable medium-lift, built to carry 13,000 kg to low Earth orbit. Nine Archimedes engines on the first stage. One vacuum-optimized Archimedes on the second. Liquid methane and oxygen. Built for satellite deployment and large-scale space missions. The medium-lift launch market just got a second serious player.

China expands its space presence from the sea: a new leap in building its satellite internet network China successfully launched a Gravity-1 rocket from the sea off the coast of Shanghai, carrying eight Qianfan constellation satellites and an experimental high-speed communications satellite, placing them into an orbit at an altitude of 800 kilometers. Notably, the payload exceeded 3 tons, setting a new Chinese record for payload mass and orbital altitude in a single sea launch. This was also the rocket’s fourth successful sea launch. In my view, the most important aspect is not the launch itself, but the speed at which these operations are being repeated and China’s ability to turn sea launches into a practical and recurring option for building its space infrastructure. With the continued deployment of Qianfan satellites, China appears to be steadily expanding its own satellite internet network.

NEWS: SpaceX has detailed Starmind, its plan for up to 1 million AI compute satellites in orbit, on a new website. Starmind moves AI data centers into space. Each satellite runs AI compute in orbit and beams results to Earth through Starlink lasers. The satellites draw constant solar power and cool for free in the vacuum. SpaceX filed that plan with the FCC in January. The first satellite, AI1, carries 150 kW of peak compute and spans 70 meters. Starship will carry 30 to 50 AI1 satellites per launch. SpaceX will build them at a new Gigasat factory in Bastrop, Texas. The AI chips come from a planned SpaceX and Tesla fab called Terafab. Two prototypes target early 2027, with thousands of satellites from late 2027.

Astranis is building a new satellite for Taiwan. 🇹🇼 With our customer, Chunghwa Telecom, we will bring Taiwan its first-ever dedicated communications satellite. Chunghwa Telecom is the largest telco in Taiwan, with a market cap of more than $30 billion USD. Independent, secure internet infrastructure has never been more geopolitically important — and because it’s impossible to replicate with LEO constellations or even terrestrial links, it merits some spelling out. Astranis was founded on the belief that access to secure, reliable communications infrastructure is foundational to peace, prosperity, and self-determination. The satellite we’re bringing to Taiwan represents resilience. It will serve as a critical backbone for cellular connectivity, maritime communications, and essential government services across Taiwan. And it will ensure that Chunghwa Telecom’s network remains operational in times of crisis, whether in the face of natural disasters or other disruptions to terrestrial infrastructure. Importantly, Astranis provides more than just a satellite — we give our customers a standalone, dedicated network. A network that can be rapidly deployed and fully spans their geography of choice. With enterprise-grade security, customizability, and deep insights into the configuration and operation of the network. And as an independent piece of infrastructure, it safeguards against geopolitical risks, and is beyond the reach of hostile neighbors. Those are the benefits of having your own, dedicated satellite and network. And that’s why so many customers are choosing Astranis. We at Astranis are honored to be part of this moment, and to have a product that has proven so uniquely needed in today’s world. We look forward to continuing to support Taiwan and its people for many years to come.

Starlink does not just dominate low Earth orbit - it actively works to keep it safe Most satellite operators guard their data SpaceX publishes its full ephemeris (position + velocity) with 72-hour predictions, updated 3 times a day - openly available to any registered operator on for free According to a recent FCC filing, Starlink performed 300,000+ collision-avoidance maneuvers in 2025 - a 50% jump from 200,000 in 2024 That’s ~40 avoidance actions per satellite, per year. Autonomously. Using AI SpaceX triggers a maneuver when collision risk hits just 3-in-10-million - over 300x stricter than the industry standard LEO satellite launch frequency keeps increasing. SpaceX is building the definitive map and traffic system for space… and making sure it stays safe

🇨🇳 Just after the U.S admitted it has space weapons, China broke new records in sea-launched space missions by sending nine satellites into orbit The Gravity-1 rocket lifted off near Shanghai and delivered eight communication satellites for Qianfan. One more "test" satellite rode along, all the way up to 800 kilometers. State media is calling it the world's first sea launch of a broadband megaconstellation. But the timing is what makes this worth a second look… Less than two weeks before this launch, one of China's own satellites, tied to its secretive Yaogan military reconnaissance program, broke apart in orbit for reasons nobody has confirmed. And now, the U.S. Space Force has officially confirmed it has deployed weapons into orbit for the first time. China immediately hit back, telling Washington to "stop preparing for war in space". Makes you wonder what the "test" satellite was that hitched a ride Writers: Bri, Ian

NEWS: Each new Starlink V3 satellite carries six space lasers moving 400 gigabits each The lasers connect the satellites to each other, forming a mesh in orbit that can route your data between almost any two points on Earth without touching the ground. Together they add up to a petabit-scale network, and the paths are redundant. If one link is busy or blocked, traffic reroutes through another satellite. This is why Starlink can work in the middle of an ocean or a desert. Data hops satellite to satellite by laser, then drops down only where it needs to. It is the same laser tech NASA just chose to beam 4K video from its Orion Moon spacecraft. (Source: Starlink, July 17)

Bridgit Mendler on how Northwood is fixing the space economy's ground infrastructure problem: "The problem that we're solving is for every satellite, it requires a connection point back to Earth so that they can control the spacecraft." "That point of contact on Earth is called the ground infrastructure." "If you don't have it, you don't have a space mission." "It literally is just like a rock in space you're doing nothing with." "There was this whole boom around spacecraft manufacturing." "And interestingly what started becoming the longest pole in the tent was just getting the point of contact on the ground to connect with." "You could build a satellite and launch it faster than you could actually connect with it from the ground." "Which just seemed absurd." Bridgit Mendler with Erik Torenberg

🇺🇸 FALCON 9 BLASTS 28 STARLINKS INTO ORBIT The skies above California lit up like a sci-fi movie as Falcon 9 ripped through the atmosphere, hurling 28 brand-new Starlink satellites into space. That’s 28 more eyes in the sky, part of Elon’s plan to wrap the planet in high-speed internet, or, depending on how you see it, create the ultimate galactic Wi-Fi grid. The rocket’s fire trail carved across the night while SpaceX casually made history again. At this rate, Elon’s basically building a space empire one batch of satellites at a time, and Earth is just along for the ride. Source: SpaceX

NEWS: SpaceX just made its AI space computer 67% more powerful, Elon Musk says The satellite is called AI1. It is basically a data center that floats in space and runs on sunlight instead of the power grid. Musk says its peak power is going up to ~250 kW, from 150 kW. Its average power is going up to 160 kW, from 120 kW. Why the boost. A single Nvidia Rubin NVL72 rack, 72 of Nvidia's newest AI chips, needs that much power to run. The bigger number means one AI1 can now handle a full rack. Musk's reasoning is simple. A GPU running all day uses about two-thirds of its peak power, even when it is very efficient. So the satellite has to be built for the peak. AI1 works with chips from any maker, not just Nvidia. SpaceX has filed to launch up to 1 million of these satellites. (Source: Elon Musk on X, July 16)

🇵🇰🚀 Pakistan Completes EO-3 Launch, Accelerating Its Satellite Constellation Drive Pakistan has successfully placed its PRSC EO-3 Earth Observation Satellite into orbit, marking a significant step in the country’s expanding space programme. The satellite, developed domestically by SUPARCO, was launched from China’s Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, underscoring a model of local manufacturing supported by external launch capability. EO-3 completes a three satellite Earth Observation series: ◽EO-1 (2025) ◽EO-2 (February 2026) ◽EO-3 (latest launch) Together, they form the backbone of a planned integrated Earth Observation system aimed at improving data availability and coverage. Pakistan now operates 5+ Earth observation satellites, with most deployed in the last two years, highlighting a noticeable acceleration in activity. Officials describe the programme as part of a broader shift: 📡 From isolated missions → to a coordinated satellite network From external reliance → to increasing data independence 🚀 From slow launches → to a structured rollout strategy The EO-3 mission also reflects continued technical cooperation with China, particularly in launch services. With additional satellites expected in the coming years, Pakistan appears to be moving toward a multi satellite constellation designed for regular, wide area monitoring. The direction is clear: a steady build up rather than a one off achievement.

STARLINK EYES GPS 2.0—SPACEX WANTS TO RUN THE MAP SpaceX just fired its shot—it’s gunning to replace GPS! In a pitch to the FCC, SpaceX revealed its satellite swarm is ready to deliver global PNT (Positioning, Navigation, Timing)—faster, safer, and independent of the Pentagon. Here’s what’s in orbit: • GPS-Free Power – Starlink’s low-orbit fleet runs solo, no military signal needed. • Global Lock-On – Resilient, secure tracking anywhere on Earth. • Direct-to-Phone Ready – Built to power services like T-Mobile’s space-texting plan. The old GPS playbook? Starlink just set it on fire! Source: TESLARATI

"Space belongs to everyone, not just the few,” said Tae O 🐧, Founder of Spacecoin. While legacy players build walled gardens, Tae is leading a different path: an open, permissionless space economy accessible to every Cadet. Many called his vision impossible: to build a decentralized, community-owned satellite network from scratch. But he saw where the space economy was heading, and refused to accept that it should belong to only a handful of players. With the launch of $SPACE, we continue building toward a new global economic layer, one that starts in orbit.

Elon Musk: The real breakthrough SpaceX is chasing isn’t hype — it’s full reusability. No one in history has ever built a fully reusable rocket, and that’s why access to space is still insanely expensive — We’ve already landed Falcon 9 boosters over 500 times, but we still throw away the upper stage — and that alone costs as much as a small jet. Starship changes everything. When every part of a rocket comes back, space stops being exclusive and starts becoming scalable. Starship is the largest flying machine ever made — built for Mars, the Moon, and massive satellite deployment. But the real revolution isn’t where it goes… it’s that it comes back. Full reusability is the single biggest lever for lowering the cost of space in human history. Automation and AI matter — but without full reusability, space will always be expensive. Starship is designed to change the economics entirely. Prove full reusability, and the cost of reaching orbit drops by a factor of 100. That’s how Mars stops being a dream and starts being a plan.

One of Elon’s deepest speeches came at one of the most important moments in SpaceX history....worth watching this video again You can see how much this mission meant to Elon.....after 18 years of hard work, setbacks and nearly losing SpaceX The day SpaceX put humans into orbit for the first time Falcon 9 launched Crew Dragon Demo-2 with NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley from Florida It was SpaceX’s first crewed mission and the first launch of astronauts to orbit from U.S. soil since the Space Shuttle retired in 2011 After years of failures, near-bankruptcy and people saying it couldn’t be done...SpaceX had finally carried humans to orbit And with that flight, Elon and SpaceX restored America’s ability to launch its own astronauts to orbit from U.S. soil A defining moment for Elon, SpaceX and the future of human spaceflight

.delian says Varda Space will ultimately build the first industrial city in orbit. He breaks down how they'll get there: "We want to build the first industrial city in low-Earth orbit. But we're taking it one step at a time. Building out the business, getting great unit economics, proving out one use case at a time." "Generation 1 of what we're building is this two-part spacecraft — satellite and pod. The satellite has all the process equipment. The pod just has the finished good. When we're done, the pod survives, but all that process equipment and everything on board burns up." "Generation 2 will be flying in 2029. Think of it as that heat shield material just envelops everything. So now the satellite plus the pod both survive. That'll probably look like a mini space plane." "By the end of the decade, we'll start to invest into fixed pieces of infrastructure in orbit. Early on they'll probably just look like a satellite with a little docking port. Basically the space plane will come with the raw ingredients and it'll dock with that satellite up in orbit, and exchange them for the fabricated goods. But then we'll have like 10 of those satellites. We'll start to stitch them together, which basically looks like a station." "One day there'll be so many of those pieces of equipment on board that we'll be able to economically justify someone with a wrench to go fix some stuff up there. Once we can economically justify one person with a wrench, we can get ten, one hundred, a thousand."
