"What is the Lebanese government doing?" Speaking to Al Mayadeen, Professor Mohammad Marandi dismissed the newly announced framework agreement between Lebanese authorities and "Israel", sponsored by the United States, arguing that it was designed solely to "undermine the MoU, which is to the benefit of the people of #Lebanon," asserting that "the Iranians are not going to heed this agreement." "This is just a futile attempt by the empire to help the Israeli regime maintain a strong presence in Lebanon," Marandi asserted. He also affirmed that #Iran still "has the leverage," warning that Washington cannot expect Tehran to honor its commitments if the #UnitedStates fails to implement its own. Addressing the signed framework agreement between Lebanese authorities and the Israeli occupation in an interview for Al Mayadeen, Professor Mohammad Marandi stressed, "If anyone thinks that the Israelis are going to voluntarily leave Lebanon, they are utterly, utterly naive," adding, "The Lebanese President and Prime Minister know this very well. They know they've signed off the southern part of Lebanon and gifted it to the Israeli regime." He also warned that "no one in Lebanon should deceive himself or herself" into believing otherwise. Professor Marandi affirmed that Iran's position remains unchanged, stressing that Article 1 of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding must be "fully implemented", cautioning that "if the United States does not want to wreck its own economy, then it should take it more seriously;" otherwise, Iran will use the Strait of Hormuz as leverage until the US fulfills its commitments. In an interview for Al Mayadeen, Professor Mohammad Marandi argued that Iran has emerged from the US war in a stronger position and will not accept compromises that weaken its control over the Strait of Hormuz or its previously agreed positions. "Iran is not going to change its position on the Strait of Hormuz," Marandi asserted, adding that due to the renewed US aggression, "Iran will have further demands," especially regarding Yemen He stressed that Tehran is not currently seeking a ceasefire and remains prepared for escalation, stressing that "the Iranians won the war" and "have the upper hand," leaving Tehran with "no reason… to compromise on anything." Speaking to Al Mayadeen, Professor Mohammad Marandi argued that Iran's decision to shut the Strait of Hormuz has placed US President Donald Trump before a defining choice. "Is he going to choose the United States? Or is he going to choose the Israeli regime?" Marandi asked, arguing that Trump now has "no third choice" between protecting the US economy or forcing "Israel" to halt its aggression and ceasefire violations in Lebanon. He said Iran briefly reopened the Strait to demonstrate that it sought an end to the war and expected the US to honor its commitments, but after "they didn't act," Tehran closed it again. Marandi stressed that Iran "is dead serious," insisting it will not compromise until the Israeli occupation ends its war, withdraws from Lebanon, and fully implements the agreement, warning that "Iran has even implied that if this is not enough; they are willing to go further... It will strike 'Israel'." Seyed Mohammad Marandi #Iran #WarOnIran #UnitedStates #Lebanon #AlMayadeen

Professor Mohammad Marandi reaffirmed that the success of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding is contingent upon the end of the Israeli war on Lebanon and the withdrawal of occupation forces from #Lebanon, stressing that Iran "will accept nothing less." He added that #Iran is prepared for the agreement to fail if its core conditions are not met, noting that "everything that Iran demands in the agreement has to be fulfilled, otherwise, Iran will not carry out its obligations." Marandi further explained that Iran would not necessarily announce any formal suspension of its commitments, but could instead adjust its behavior gradually, such as by reducing maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. He added that while Iran is currently showing patience, it retains the ability to apply "pressure on the United States in a very subtle but very effective way," noting that global energy reserves are already being depleted. In an interview for Al Mayadeen, Professor Mohammad Marandi affirmed that the United States is actively working against the very memorandum of understanding it signed, stating that "the United States has collaborated with the President and Prime Minister that they installed in #Lebanon in order to undermine the agreement." He added that the #US is "encouraging ships to violate Iran’s regulations that are in accordance with the MoU," warning that any Iranian response is then used as a pretext for further escalation. Marandi also pointed to US violations, including delays over Israeli occupation forces' withdrawal from South Lebanon and the release of #Iran's frozen assets. While acknowledging limited US compliance under pressure, he concluded that Iran "will not accept this" and will continue leveraging the Strait of Hormuz until the US abides by the agreement. Speaking to Al Mayadeen, Professor Mohammad Marandi explained why Iran has refused to negotiate on Washington’s timetable, arguing that Tehran sees such deadlines as part of the pressure tactics of warfare. "Iran does not work based on their timetables," Marandi said, stressing that what could be interpreted as Iran's weakness, instead of goodwill, could encourage further US pressure. He also warned that Iranian diplomats must pay attention to every word of any agreement to prevent the United States from exploiting potential "loopholes" later, pointing to the JCPOA as a precedent where the US ultimately violated the deal despite Iran fulfilling its commitments. In an interview with Al Mayadeen, Professor Mohammad Marandi said that Oman is operating under severe diplomatic pressure from the United States following recent threats made by Donald Trump. Concurrently, Iran has implemented a strict transit policy, asserting that no maritime vessels will be permitted to navigate the Strait of Hormuz without explicit permission. Marandi explains that this stance is a direct consequence of Washington's failure to honor its commitments regarding Lebanon under the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding. The Professor added that, ultimately, the goal is to compel Washington to change direction and actively pressure the Netanyahu government. Marandi emphasizes that Iran will maintain this restrictive policy until the United States abides by the full framework of its regional commitments. In an interview for Al Mayadeen, Professor Mohammad Marandi said that Iran and the US agreed upon terms that "were very appealing to Iran," explaining that the US accepted a regional end to the war, an end to the war on Lebanon, and to put off discussions about the nuclear program until the second stage. "So the only thing that is in this text that hasn't been agreed upon yet is Iran saying that it will not build a nuclear weapon, but that's what Iran has been saying for decades. So that's not something new for Iran," Professor Marandi said. Speaking to Al Mayadeen, Professor Mohammad Marandi said the US-Iran negotiations have effectively returned to the framework that existed weeks ago after the United States withdrew additional conditions it had attempted to impose. Referring to remarks by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Marandi maintained that the release of Iran’s frozen assets remains part of the agreement despite US claims to the contrary. He argued that US President Donald Trump's last-minute demands, along with the escalation against Lebanon, Iran, and the Strait of Hormuz, only delayed progress before ultimately failing to alter the deal's core terms. According to Marandi, the agreement now largely reflects the understandings that had already been under discussion, including sanctions relief on Iran's energy exports, the release of Iranian assets, and ending the war on Lebanon. "The region looks completely different from before," Professor Mohammad Marandi said on Al Mayadeen’s The Grand Standoff: Iran and the World, arguing that the past year has brought major changes to the regional balance of power. While acknowledging the Israeli destruction in Gaza and Lebanon and the deterioration in Syria, Marandi said the US-led empire has also been "badly wounded.. and has suffered a major defeat at the hands of the Resistance, Iran, and Yemen." He further argued that the "hardship that has been imposed on the region" was a double-edged sword, as the empire and its proxies are now "in retreat". On another note, Marandi warned that another US war against Iran remains possible, which will end in its "defeat". Marandi added that he expects the United States to eventually retreat and that a diminished US would force "Israel" to change its posture.
