And when a product is entirely new, the art of selling is needed to explain it. What it is. How it works. Why you might need and want it." Dyson was taught this by his mentor when Dyson was just 21 years old: "I told him I don't know how to sell things." And he said, "Look, you're the engineer. You've chosen every square inch of that product. Everything. You know it all. That means you're the best person to sell it." That was an interesting sort revelation for me because I'd always thought these were separate professions. Sales was one profession, engineering was another, manufacturing was another, and being a manager was another. And suddenly this entrepreneur was saying to me, "Well, look, you're an engineer and designer. You know all about the product, make it, and then go and sell it."

Every year, Ather Community Day feels a little different. The first one was just a small group of Ather owners getting together. Last year, nearly 5,000 people joined us. We built and launched a viral AI product in 2 months (at Google!). Here's how: Our little NotebookLM team has had a crazy few months and is proving that small, nimble teams not only exist within Google, but can move fast and have significant impact. Our newest feature “Audio Overviews” has taken over the internet the past few days. The team has been sprinting - we went from idea to prototype in weeks, then launched publicly in under 2 months. It’s not perfect (yet!), but that’s the point. Here are a few takeaways: 1. It's about building products *with* our users, not just *for* them. We’re not waiting to launch, we’re shipping early and iterating. Tech is evolving faster than users can possibly know what they want. We're often anticipating needs for V1 then working alongside them to improve. Example: Very quickly we saw a massive user desire for in-line citations so our team quickly pivoted to build and launch. (Join our discord!) 2. Built-in not bolted-on: We’re building net-new, AI native products. This isn’t just AI for the sake of “AI”, we’re working to bridge the gap between state-of-the-art research and human problems. Audio Overviews are great because they sound amazing, yes -- but useful because they are (1) source grounded and (2) an easy one-click way to study and digest your own information. 3. Meetings are spent building, not just talking about building. We’re collaborating, deeply. I am the only UX designer on the team so we have to make every moment count. @raiza_abubakar, Steven Johnson and I are constantly strategizing and iterating together. NotebookLM represents a new era of product development within Labs at Google. We're putting user feedback and community engagement at the heart of everything we do. We’re building quickly and have a lot more coming soon.. The audio below is made with the NotebookLM Audio Overview feature using only my LinkedIn post! If you haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it. We want to make it better for you! It’s been awesome to see so much investigation into the product by Andrej Karpathy and Ethan Mollick.

Juicebox. A 5-minute dark-comedy-horror film. The world ended and then it got weirder. Here's something nobody wants to say out loud: prompting is a bad way to work if you actually know how to make a film. Our team (Hridaye, Pavitra, and Arnav) has been making films for over a decade and the last couple of years with AI. They spent years building an eye, building taste, building their instinct. Then they were made to sit in front of a tool throwing prompts at it a thousand times hoping one would stick. Rolling dice. Praying. Re-rolling. This was the first time it didn't feel like that for them. They gave a direction, it landed. They changed their mind, it remembered why. The team truly worked the way it would work on a set, making decisions, not gambling. This one's written and directed entirely with Agent One. In their words: "it didn’t feel like a tool, but more like a crew member."

I gave MiniMax M3: • product docs • pricing • customer feedback • roadmap • competitor research Then dropped everything into Cursor and asked it to build the product. What impressed me wasn't the code. It was how well M3 connected information across all the documents and turned them into actual product decisions. Feels less like "AI coding" and more like working with a junior product + engineering team.
