Mbappe’s is all one action, Jj’s is loads of small actions

alex's profile picture
alex4 months ago

what’s allowing mbappe’s action to appear more ‘seamless’ & fluid though?

h's profile picture
h4 months ago

Repetition & his ability to already know what follows each action. Similar to a train, all connected at the base, and travels at the same speed.

alex's profile picture
alex4 months ago

agreed w/ first sentence but disagree w/ the second. mbappe’s rhythm [speed] becomes much faster w/ the stepovers compared to his approach. that’s what allows him to create separation and what elevates him above the rest imo. an incredible understanding of different rhythms.

Mbappe legit no wasted movement, it was all so seamless

alex's profile picture
alex4 months ago

on the same line of thinking, why is mbappe capable of looking so ‘seamless’ though in relation to JJ?

@r1medi JJ’s focus is on the dribble, Mbappe’s is on the release.

alex's profile picture
alex4 months ago

@r1medi yup, yup. those focuses are dictated by the drill they’re doing though, what’s the innate difference between their actions?

alex's profile picture
alex4 months ago

no wrong answers to this btw, but there’s a particular difference present here that elevates kylian above the rest.

alex's profile picture
alex4 months ago

really, really enjoying the discourse this has created. so many observations i hadn’t spotted and considered — a nice reminder of what this app is capable of. will let it marinate for a while then drop my own observation!

alex's profile picture

the difference which i believe elevates mbappe to different levels.

Power, acel/decel process is the significant difference Separated by genetics & age ofc

alex's profile picture
alex4 months ago

latter ofc, would never compare the two. spot on fella

Yh yh I get ur intention with the post bro, built good discussions with it. A nice example for JJ to know the dribbling/outplaying process ‘looks like’ in final form, which is the purpose of the technical + S&C training. Ignore anyone tryna purposely misunderstand

alex's profile picture
alex4 months ago

spot on, exact sort of clip i’d use if i’d be coaching a playa on this. & the discourses that have stemmed from this has really made me want to get into coaching. something i’m pursuing regardless of everything this summer

i hear it but can’t say it’s not about jj when the vids including him. would of been better to use an acc pro in these comparisons to make it more interesting imo.

Careful, you’ll have his dad coming for your head

alex's profile picture

nothing but love to JJ, his family and crew around him. future of yanited who is clearly committed to being the best version of himself as he can be. just wanting to raise a discussion is all!

both thinking about different things (drill related though maybe) jj’s idea is to go past his man and prep for the 1v1 first and mbappes is to score

sj's profile picture
sj4 months ago

Mbappe less choppy & eyes/head up more. It’s like drawing a circle vs drawing a square on paper. (Opposed situation vs semi/unopposed situation tho so hard to fully compare with JJ)

alex's profile picture
alex4 months ago

yeah, should’ve prefaced it by saying that looking moreso at the innate quality of each action rather than the situation. what’s allowing kylian to look less choppy in this instance though?

sj's profile picture
sj4 months ago

Arms stand out. Mbappe’s balance is spot on and his arms move perfectly to accelerate, de-accelerate & shift inside JJ in this case, his arms are moving quicker than his feet and aren’t as in-sync (expected given age and body is still growing)

alex's profile picture
alex4 months ago

true, don’t believe JJ loses balance whatsoever throughout these clips though. the difference:

jj has good fundamentals but he’s constantly in fast motion and that leads him to pick the direction he’s going in way before he even faces the defender properly or waits for the defender to commit mbappe already knows his spot cuz he’s not rushing, waits for the…

A lot of it has to do with biomechanical differences tho. JJ doesn’t have the same explosiveness as Mbappe so needs to rely on more tight touches and Misdirection whereas Mbappe can just feint and Burst. They’re different dribblers better off comparing JJ to Neymar type dribblers

standards this

melodytalksfooty's profile picture

its the tempo. if thats JJ he needs to slow down the action of taking on the player, then you use your physicality qualities like rapid steps and acceleration to create separation even more so at an elite level but he needs to slow the action down a bit gives him more options OTB

Head down

alex's profile picture
alex4 months ago

good spot, but that’s moreso informed by JJ being in a 1v1 session rather than a team session. a clue:

xlv's profile picture
xlv4 months ago

Then something along the lines of rhythm…jj more deft touches KM more constant touches but smoother motion?

alex's profile picture
alex4 months ago

rhythm is the same word i use, but it’s not *necessarily* to do w/ the number of touches.

Kyky hips are more neutral and his stance is more upright so the defender has little signal for where he’s going when he eventually explodes

Mbappe’s taken a more minimalist approach to beating tchouameni but that probably stems from the differing nature of the drills

Jj's body form is very poor on the ball. His trainers need to work on that else he's going to struggle to perform at the elite level.

JJ reminds me a lot of young Pulisic

The bio mechanics is already well explained here, I would like to factor in another aspect:

Body movement on the feints for Kiki disguises the intention & he charges towards the hips, selling the possibility of going left or right until ankle shift execution. JJ does some of these, but they're different scenarios he doesn't charge at hips cause he ain't in a 1vs1.

alex's profile picture
alex4 months ago

yeah, different situations [starting back to goal versus traditional 1v1] so kylian is able to use his hips/shoulders to disguise and ankle to deceive. for what i’m focusing on, focus on the ‘innate’ quality of both’s actions.

+'s profile picture

I think the reason why the execution looks so different is that JJ appears to be thinking more about the execution of one action to the next, while Kiki is just routinely executing the action that will get me the angles for the goal. Reps and physical development are my reasons y

Difference is video 1 is a 15 year old having 1 to 1 coaching and video 2 is World Cup winner mbappe in training

D's profile picture

2v different 1 v 1situations. jj is working more on receiving with back to goal and evading the press ( this has to be done faster because you have less time and defender is closer to you) whereas mbappe is driving at the defender with more space between them. (So slower)
