Molly wasn't supposed to be the one who reached Daisy. Her mother had only brought her to the shelter for a short visit, thinking they'd walk through, meet a few dogs, and leave a little while later. Down one of the quieter kennel rows, the large bulldog stood pressed into the back corner of her enclosure. Daisy looked strong from a distance, but nothing about her posture felt confident. Her head stayed low, her eyes fixed forward, and her paws were planted like the floor was the only thing holding her together. A raised bed sat off to one side, untouched. Shelter staff had already explained that Daisy had been struggling since arriving there. She wasn't aggressive, and she wasn't loud. Fear had settled into her so deeply that she no longer seemed to believe much good could come from anyone stepping through that doorway. Most visitors took one look and kept moving. Molly didn't. She lowered herself to the floor outside the kennel entrance and stayed there without making a fuss. Her small pink cardigan bunched at the elbows as she leaned forward, watching Daisy with the kind of patience children sometimes have when adults have already decided a moment is over. No treat was in her hand. No toy was offered. She only stretched out her arm slowly, palm up, and gave Daisy space to choose. Then her voice came. "Come on," she said softly. "It's okay."Nothing happened at first. Daisy stayed where she was, tight against the wall, carrying that familiar look animals get when life has taught them to expect the worst before anything else. Molly didn't pull her hand back. Another quiet second passed before Daisy shifted her weight. One paw moved forward, then stopped. Her face stayed tense, and her eyes never left the little girl sitting outside the kennel. Molly kept speaking in the same gentle voice, barely above a whisper. There was no excitement in her tone, no pressure, no rush for something emotional to happen on cue. She sounded like a child speaking to someone who seemed lonely. That was enough to change the room. Daisy took another step, then another, leaving the corner one slow movement at a time. Her body still looked cautious, but the distance between them kept shrinking until her nose was finally close enough to reach Molly's hand. Molly smiled and leaned in carefully. A second later, her arms were around Daisy's neck. Daisy didn't pull away. She stood there and accepted the embrace, pressing her heavy body close as if the decision had cost her something and comfort had finally answered back. People talk a lot about rescuing dogs, yet moments like this make it feel more honest to say that trust often has to be rescued first. Daisy walked into that day carrying all the weight of whatever had happened before. By the time Molly held her, the fear still hadn't disappeared completely. She just wasn't carrying it alone anymore.

"They told me he probably wouldn't get adopted if she left without him. I went to the shelter to adopt one dog. Diesel — a young pit bull with a wiggle-your-whole-body kind of joy. I'd already pictured him in my car. Then I saw her. Daisy, curled quietly beside him, eyes only on him. When he stood, she stood. When he rested, she leaned into him like she needed his heartbeat to feel okay. A volunteer said they'd been found together on the back roads, starving, no owner ever showing up. Staff tried separating them once. Diesel cried for hours. Daisy stopped eating. They never tried again. People wanted Diesel. Nobody asked about Daisy. And "maybe we just split them up" kept coming up quietly — not because anyone wanted it, but because two pit bulls together is a hard sell. Then Diesel walked over, touched his nose to hers, and led her to me. Like he was telling her it was safe. She sat beside him and leaned in. This wasn't two dogs. It was one heart, two bodies. "If you still want Diesel, we'll start the paperwork," the volunteer said. "I need paperwork for both," I told her. She teared up. "You're serious?" They'd already chosen each other. Who was I to undo that? An hour later, we left as a family. Diesel rode proud at the window. Daisy curled against him and slept the deepest sleep — the kind that only comes when fear finally lets go. That was two years ago. Diesel still steals blankets and treats every day like the best one yet. Daisy runs the yard now, greets guests, demands belly rubs. People think Diesel protects her. Really, they protect each other. Happy Gotcha Day, Diesel and Daisy. Sometimes the best choice isn't picking one dog — it's refusing to break a bond that was never meant to be broken. ❤️

I lost some of my faith in people yesterday. Do you all remember this story of the woman we found on the road carrying a dead child? Around 3pm yesterday while I was at the hospital, I got a call from Ope Ola Grace. She sounded really confused. I asked what’s wrong then she said she saw this woman at Lafenwa begging for alms among the beggars. I told her to wait there and make sure she doesn’t leave, that I am on my way to confirm with my eyes because it can’t be possible. I got there with Seeker of Truth and it was indeed true. I couldn’t believe what I saw. How’s this possible?? We set up a business worth around N300k for her last December, gave her money, gave her husband extra money to keep. Enrolled her kids (all 3 of them) in school, supplied all needed school materials for one year. Bought at least 3 months worth of food supply for them as well. The Hon Commissioner for women affairs Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye also sent delegates to her with lots of needed items; 25kg bags of rice twice in the last 5 months, 10 crates of soft drink for the wife in January. The commissioner also made sure that her husband was among the 100 beneficiaries of the N100,000 disability grant of the RHI shared on the 17th of April by First Lady Remi Tinubu in Abeokuta. He confirmed that he received the N100k the same day. I called her at the spot to show her the woman and she was confused too. Like, “Jack, what else could we have done?” I asked people there, they said she’s been begging with them for more than a month. When I explained in details all the help we have provided for her in the last 5 months, they got angry, saying she should leave. That’s not even the worst part of this story. The worst, I fear, is she appears pregnant again. However she insisted she’s not, that she just ate eba, that’s why her stomach is big. We took her back home, the husband (visually impaired as I stated then) said he was not aware that she has been begging, and he can’t see, so no way to confirm if she’s pregnant. Everyone in her community said she goes out for 3-4hours everyday when the kids have gone to school to get ‘supplies’ for their mini-stall. They said some other troubling things about her that I won’t want to share here. I am confused on what to do next.

It's 2030 and you are reviewing humanoid robots. A Tesla. A Google. An Apple. An OpenAI. A Meta. A Figure. And a bunch of Chinese-made ones. Which one is best, and why? I think the Tesla understands the world much better. Why? There were eight Teslas around me on the freeway today. Start there. No other robot company has that data. But my robot is parked at the local high school twice a day. Its cameras see humans in all of our weirdness. How we move. Where we go. Where we walk. Who we talk with. What you are wearing. Whether your hair was combed this morning. That data will lead to robotics breakthroughs. Apple might keep up with its Vision Pro data, but it is too freaked out by the privacy implications of using said data. (On the front are six cameras and a couple of TOF -- Time Of Flight -- sensors that can see everything in your home in great detail). Google has a lot of data, for sure. All my: 1. Email. 2. Calendars. 3. Photos. 4. TV watching behavior. 5. Contacts. 6. Documents and spreadsheets. 7. Files. 8. Location data. So I expect Google's robot will be attractive to many. But how do you see the others shake out over the next five years? Make some guesses. But remember what an AI pioneer told me years ago about AI: it's all about the data. The Chinese ones have huge advantages: the Chinese have more data on their citizens, and many more citizens to boot AND they can make robots cheaper than we can. But now that you know OpenAI is building its own robot you have caught wind of what I've heard from many in San Francisco and Silicon Valley: that humanoid robots are the real prize of AI and will be highly profitable for those that can make them and find customers willing to buy them. Here, too, I learned long ago never to bet against Elon Musk. Will you?

🙏🙏 At thirty thousand feet, with only minutes left to live, a 27-year-old woman chose love over terror. Her name was Honour Elizabeth Wainio, and just days earlier she had been savoring the happiest journey of her life-attending a wedding in Italy, wandering the streets of Paris, and lighting a candle for her grandmother in a quiet church. She told her mother that seeing Paris made her feel complete, as if she could face anything afterward. On the morning of September 11, 2001, she boarded a routine business flight to San Francisco for a work meeting, unaware that her life was about to become part of history. When the aircraft was hijacked, panic swept the cabin. Passengers quickly realized this was not a situation that would end safely on a runway. In the middle of that chaos, Honour reached for an onboard phone and called her stepmother. For more than four minutes, she spoke with astonishing calm. She did not dwell on fear or plead for rescue. Instead, she spoke about gratitude, about family, and about how deeply she loved the people who had shaped her life. Her final words were simple and unadorned: that the hijackers were breaking into the cockpit, and that she loved them. Those words, recorded in real time, became a lasting testament to her character. Through phone calls like hers, passengers learned the truth about the other attacks already unfolding that morning. Together, they understood what their flight had become and what was at stake. They talked, made a decision, and acted. Their attempt to regain control forced the plane down into a field in Pennsylvania, preventing it from reaching its intended target in Washington. Honour, a Towson University graduate, a devoted baseball fan, a daughter, sister, and friend, was among the forty who died that day. A scholarship now bears her name, honoring the compassion she showed when it mattered most. Her story endures as proof that even in humanity's darkest moments, courage and love can still rise.

In the Louvre Museum in Paris, there is a marble sculpture whose wings are carved so thinly that when sunlight passes through them, the stone glows gold... The sculpture is called Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss and it was carved by Antonio Canova between 1787 and 1793. The story comes from Lucius Apuleius's Latin novel Metamorphoses, written in the 2nd century AD. Psyche is a mortal princess so beautiful that the goddess Venus grows jealous of her and orders her son Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with the most hideous creature on earth. Cupid disobeys his mother and falls in love with Psyche himself. Their love is discovered. Venus, in fury, sets Psyche a series of impossible tasks. The final one is to descend into the underworld and bring back a flask containing a portion of the beauty of Proserpina, queen of the dead. Psyche is forbidden to open it. She opens it. Inside is not beauty but the Sleep of the Underworld, and it falls upon her like a black cloud. She collapses on the road, lifeless. Cupid finds her there. He bends down. He kisses her. Canova chose to carve the exact moment her body wakes... Psyche lies on a low rock, her body slack, her arms rising slowly toward Cupid as life returns to her. Cupid kneels above her, one hand cradling her head, the other against her breast. Their lips have not quite met. They are millimeters apart, and they have been for more than 200 years. Behind Cupid, his wings rise into the air. Canova carved them so thinly that when light strikes them at the right angle, the stone turns translucent and warm as honey... If you enjoyed this, I write a weekly newsletter read by over 50,000 people who love rediscovering the beauty of history. You can join us here: One story like this in your inbox every week.

My husband and I decided to open our hearts to a 10-and-a-half-year-old dog. We weren't looking to adopt another dog, but when we learned that she had spent three months at the shelter without a single visitor or adoption inquiry, we couldn't bear the thought of her growing old and passing away alone. Although she wasn't with a rescue organization, her story was shared widely throughout the animal rescue community. She was incredibly gentle and sweet, and the shelter volunteers adored her. They loved her so much that they often let her spend time with them in the office instead of leaving her alone in her kennel. The day after we heard about her, we went to meet her. The moment we saw her, we knew we couldn't walk away. When we brought her home, she was covered in ticks. Helping her recover wasn't easy. We made countless trips to the veterinarian, patiently tried different treatments, and devoted a great deal of time to her care. There were moments when it felt overwhelming, but we never regretted our decision. All we wanted was for her to spend the rest of her life surrounded by love. In the end, we received the greatest gift of all. She stayed with us for three more wonderful years before peacefully passing away at 13 and a half years old, an impressive age for a dog. She brought so much joy into our family and will always hold a special place in our hearts. Senior dogs may not have as much time left, but they deserve love, care, and a real home just as much as any other dog. 🐾❤️ 📹treatsnatcher

Wondering if you are “quad dominant” in your throw and if you should change it? Maybe you shouldn’t 🤷‍♂️ A coach’s post coming from Austin Roark 🚀⠀ -⠀ One question I get from a lot of athletes is whether they should change their lower half because their knee is over their toe during their loading phase down the mound. ⠀ -⠀ The biggest thing that I look for when trying to figure out if it is an issue or not is to see how they are able to get out of that position. Some guys are able to leverage and rotate from that position extremely well, which then I would say that it’s not an issue.⠀ -⠀ On the other hand, there are some guys who will get out of this position by driving extension out of their back leg, killing their ability to rotate their pelvis and get it in an open position into landing.⠀ -⠀ This is when I would suggest trying to make a change. I think a lot of people jump into certain ideologies that you shouldn’t do certain things because it’s “inefficient” or it looks “wrong”. ⠀ -⠀ Take a look at these pitchers shown in the video. All 3 of these high level arms have some degree of knee flexion over their toe. Now, granted, they all have insane levers to help them, but the way they are moving is what makes them efficient in how they throw. ⠀ -⠀ I think if you told Dustin May that he had to hold a vertical shin down the mound, it would be a disaster and mess a lot of things up upstream that would impact him in a negative way.⠀ -⠀ The big takeaway here is that there are no absolutes. One thing that may look inefficient to you could be the thing that makes someone else very efficient.⠀ -⠀ When trying to figure out if you should change something about someone's delivery, make sure to look at the entire unit as a whole and don’t jump into any quick changes.

Claude Monet painted the same stretch of cliff more than ninety times. The place is Étretat, a small fishing village on the coast of Normandy, where the chalk cliffs fall into the sea in great arches and a single spire of rock, the Aiguille, stands alone in the water. Monet had known the place since childhood. He grew up in Normandy, and these cliffs were among the first landscapes he ever saw... He returned to paint them again and again. He worked through the 1880s in front of the same rock formations, and across that time he produced more than ninety canvases of them: the cliffs at dawn, at sunset, under storm, under calm, in winter light and in the gold of a clear evening. In his letters to Alice, the woman he would later marry, he described the agony of it: the weather turning, the tide rising, the sun moving, the colour he had begun to capture vanishing before he could finish. He often worked on several canvases at once, switching between them as the conditions changed, racing each one against the hour. In a letter to his friend Frédéric Bazille he wrote: "It is beautiful here in Etretat. Every day I discover even more beautiful things. It is intoxicating me, and I want to paint it all, my head is bursting. I want to fight, scratch it off, start again, because I start to see and understand. It seems to me as if I can see nature and I can catch it all." The cliffs of Étretat had stood for millions of years and would look, to most people, the same on any given day. Monet saw that they were never the same even for two minutes. He stood on that shore and tried to hold, on canvas, something that exists only for an instant and then is gone forever. And that's exactly what those paintings really are: 90 attempts to keep a single, vanishing moment of light from disappearing. As Dylan Thomas once wrote: "Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light." -- -- -- If you want a deeper dive into the craft of painting, I recently wrote a piece exploring it in detail. You can read it here: And if you'd like to support my work, a paid subscription is what makes it possible:

Dear Mr. President, Thank you for writing against the terrible, barbaric act of torture again, as you did in 2017 when many people were being tortured at the infamous Nalufenya detention center. Just in case you didn’t know, let me join many other Ugandans to bring it to your attention that so many more people have been tortured since then. I will list some of them but let me start with Sam Mugumya who was disappeared by security operatives a year ago and has never been released or charged in any court of law even when the courts ordered the state to investigate this matter. I also interviewed his 83 year old mother Ednansi Katungwesi who appealed to you to intervene and ensure that her son is taken to prison where she can visit him and ascertain that he is alive, if he committed any crime. Recently, a video of him surfaced and he has been visibly subjected to torture and inhumane treatment. He was tortured even worse than Nuwagaba (I say that because I interviewed Nuwagaba in 2024) and if Mugumya isn’t released to get the same treatment you offered to Nuwagaba, I am afraid he won’t survive. Many other Ugandans have been abducted and disappeared and held incommunicado and tortured. The reason suspects are not arrested in accordance with the law and held in gazetted detention is to torture them. Some of those that have been lucky to make it out have told this harrowing tales. Some haven’t been lucky because they have not been seen again for 7,6,5 years. As we speak, countless Ugandans are still held incommunicado including two very young people Christopher Gody (King Zale) and 18 year old William Baliza. Then there are others whose torture hasn’t even been hidden. Your son the CDF, has publicized it, e.g Eddie Mutwe, Erias Lukwago, etc. Just in case these had not been brought to your attention, I and many other Ugandans are bringing them to your attention. Otherwise Ugandans may think you only care about the torture of Nuwagaba who comes from Kiruhura where you also come from and not the plight of so many other parents like the 83 year old mother of Sam Mugumya and of these many other Ugandans that have been tortured. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.

#JoongDunk #จุงดัง — ⋆˙⟡♡ อันโดรเมด้า ชุน dunknatachai finding a man like Dunk Natachai feels like finding peace in human form. he’s gentle in a way the world rarely teaches men to be. soft-spoken but sure, caring without needing to be loud about it. there’s something about the way he carries himself, so grounded and warm like no matter how chaotic life gets he’d hold you steady. he listens, like really listens and you can feel it in how he responds, how his eyes stay on you like you’re the only person in the room. and the smile? god the smile could undo you. it’s kind, it’s bright, and it makes you feel like maybe everything’s going to be okay. to be loved by someone like him would mean being cherished in the quietest, most beautiful ways and then there’s Joong Archen. he’s the type of man who’d set your soul on fire in the best way. passionate, fearless, and just a little bit chaotic in the most lovable way. he’s expressive, loud when he’s happy, honest when he cares, and he makes you feel like life should be lived big and with heart. he’s a protector, a teaser, a dreamer. there’s this spark in him that pulls people in like his kindness, his confidence, his goofiness. he’s the type who’d hold your hand in public and defend your name like it’s his own. loving someone like him would feel like constant reassurance. you’d never doubt his love because he’d make sure you feel it every damn day but the most beautiful thing? they found each other. two people with hearts so different but so perfectly matched. dunkdunk, with his calm that softens joong’s fire. and joongjoong, with his spark that lights up dunk’s quiet world. they hold each other like home. you see them together and it makes you believe in true friendship, in soulmates, in timing, in love. so yeah finding a man like them would be a miracle and a dream. but for them to find each other? that’s a love story I’ll never get tired of watching 🥺💛🌻
