@github @georgebrock finally moving away from the 'i'll just merge this 2k line beast because stacking is too painful' era of development. my reviewers might actually start liking me again

@github @georgebrock Would love to get @gitbutler on this list. Would be a very good stacked diffs based git client for this functionality.

@github @georgebrock Dang it, I got excited thinking that this was maybe gerrit style change sets. But it’s just PRs on top of one another.

@github @georgebrock Bro seriously... I need this now... I'm currently trying to manually do this exact thing and it's terrible.

@github @georgebrock When the base PR lands with "Squash and Merge" (hence its commit ID changes when it lands) does the topmost PR actually rebase automatically given there are no conflicts as well? @jaredpalmer

@github @georgebrock Great!! Semi-linear merge next! The dev who built it for AzureDevops works at GitHub now afaik. Gitlab also has it.

@github @georgebrock Will it integrate with Graphite stacks, and be available for third-parties? Would hate to see interfaces continue to diverge

@github @georgebrock GitHub still moving at Microsoft pace. A highly requested feature takes years to get to, whole quarters to deliver. About a days’ work at Cursor / Graphite / Linear or @usehamster

@github @georgebrock Super stoked that GitHub is getting these features! Totally would recommend looking at the features implemented by And bringing them in house.

@github @georgebrock how will this handle force-push/rebase based workflows?

@github @georgebrock Stacked diffs are the single biggest missing workflow on GitHub. Anyone who's used Phabricator or Gerrit knows how much faster code review gets when you can break large changes into reviewable chunks that depend on each other.

@github @georgebrock Uh trying to figure out how squash merges work with stack diffs. So far my conclusion is they don't.

@github @georgebrock this is not enough, unfortunately. stacked PRs are broken on git level. essentially I want to be able to shove things into different buckets while still having all the changes checked out locally. right now it requires constant branch switching and chained rebasing.

@github @georgebrock this is huge in the era of agentic development too. Wiill be great to have an agent open a series of digestible PRs as it goes

This is the single most overdue feature in GitHub's history. Every team that's tasted stacked diffs (Phabricator, Graphite) never goes back. The fact that it's native means no more third-party tooling tax. Huge for AI-assisted coding too — agents naturally produce incremental changes.

@github @georgebrock When can we start to layer in MF and MFEs so these kind of things will be easier to ship ?
