The two-hour opener, Encounter at Farpoint, put Captain Picard and crew on trial before Q — John de Lancie's cosmic trickster — for the crimes of humanity. Paramount skipped the big networks and launched it in first-run syndication, a risky 1987 bet that let the show find its audience market by market instead of living or dying on one timeslot.

Currently binge watching it.... I'm on season 7 ep. 5... Gambit Pt.2... had to take a break from it today.... Starship an all.

Happy anniversary. Next year will be the 40th! TNG became one of the greatest Sci-Fi shows ever. I love Star Trek, when it's good, it's one of my fave things ever.

I remember watching and thinking: "Oh. Hopefully they'll get better..."

An incredible tv series....once they got through the first 2 seasons that were largely cringe worthy Ferengi as the main antagonist/scary alien race? With laser whips as weapons? LOL Terrible original Starfleet uniforms? Riker without a beard?? These guys? ⬇️

@CAARIUNEWS OMG, next year it will be 40 years.

More people watched Encounter at Farpoint than live in Australia in 2026!

We still mourn the loss of Tasha Yar 😞

Ernie Anderson narration makes everything better

What a great ad.

To my mind ST:TNG is the third best sci-fi show of all time, only behind BSG and Firefly. DS9 and Voyager are also pretty good.

I like some people, couldn't see the Enterprise w/o Kirk & Spock, so I didn't watch until "The Game". It still took me a long time to get used to a different crew, bigger ship & a captain that didn't typically go on away missions, more drama & less action, but now I love it.

This ad did great considering it had to promote Season 1 of TNG.

😳🖖💯

For the fans

god I miss late night syndicated commercials. it made watching the 2am infomercials worth it

why do they just have the theme from the motion picture over this trailer? doesn't this new show have it's own music?

I remember it well, it was a Sunday, after the football game, at least for our area.

and i watched it

My life was never the same after watching this. My dad gave me the gift of Star Trek

All these years i thought it was called Star Trek, but its actually StAARR Trek

Back when TV was 26 42 minute long episodes per year instead of 8 22 minute long episodes every three years. Good times

Promo voice talent was the legendary Ernie Anderson/ Ghoulardi
Maybe I'm crazy but I watched the first episode when it aired and I'm pretty sure during the intro, it goes *body go where no man.... No one has gone before". Is was longer the original series into but updated and I thought that was neat. But I haven't found the original. Maybe I hallucinated it...

👍👍

The first season is all but unwatchable. It took a while for the series to find its feet.

It took some use to getting into but it did improve starting with Season 2. Amusingly, the Ferengi were supposed to be the new baddies of the Star Trek Series... I dare say that the Borg were a vast improvement on that concept???

Lectures: IN SPACE!

Isn’t that the legendary Ernie “Ghoulardi/Paul Thomas A.’s Dad” Anderson doing the read?

As a fan of TOS, I was cold on the show when it first aired. Ugly uniforms (Wrath of Khan were peak), an awkward split command, a one note Klingon crew member, a somewhat unnerving android. It took two seasons to get better.
