George Lucas was so impressed by Frank Oz's performance as Yoda in "Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back" (1980). So, he spent thousands of dollars on an advertising campaign to try and get him an Oscar nomination for "Best Actor in a Supporting Role". George Lucas's campaign ultimately failed because it was felt that a puppeteer wasn't an actor. Lucas felt this wasn't fair to Oz, who honestly didn't care. In space, the black background could hide matte lines, blue-screen artifacts, and compositing flaws. But on a bright white snow-covered planet, every shadow and mismatch in lighting stood out, leaving ILM nowhere to hide mistakes. Lucas wanted to push the effects team to achieve a level of realism that simply wasn’t possible by taking the easy route. The results became some of the most impressive effects ever put on film, and the Battle of Hoth remains one of the most legendary scenes in all of Star Wars.

Jack Poso 🇺🇸 says “Did Alex Soros write this?” since the Empire is searching for “undocumented workers” The goal here is to do revisionary history with Star Wars Licensing it appears an have the evil white storm troopers take advantage of the brown field/farm workers. It’s so overt you have to laugh at this stage. The original films written by Lucas were meant to portray the Empire as Nazi’s in space but the hijacking by the modern left is so laughable when their form of government would be more in line with Nazi regime of WW2 Germany.

Galaga (Namco, 1981) You could hear it from a mile away and were magically drawn toward it when entering an arcade. It was usually the most packed machine, surrounded by kids watching a “pro” play. I didn’t have much money back then, so I could afford maybe three or four games, but I’d still hang out with my brother for another hour or two just watching others play. I remember one time a guy was on a serious streak but started sweating and losing his grip on the joystick. Another kid ran to the bathroom, grabbed paper towels, and handed them to him so he could wipe his hands and the joystick between stages. Everyone cheered him on while making sure no one crowded too close. Early multiplayer co-op mode! Arcades were a world of their own. The games and graphics were so far ahead of what my Atari 2600 and C64 could do. That magic slowly faded in the late 80s when the Amiga (and later PCs) caught up.

He did not get in the way of the National Guard patrol, he did not try to block what this National Guard patrol was doing, he just played the iconic song from the Empire Strikes Back on his phone as he walked around after them, conveying satirically, and through music, exactly what this National Guard deployment is. When he did that, a National Guardsman summoned the DC Police to arrest him for it, and they put him in handcuffs for having played that song, but now, he just got paid. He’s just received a $50,000 payment as a settlement for the cops handcuffing him, essentially as punishment for him playing the song from the Empire Strikes Back. How about instead of trying to take control of TikTok we utilize an app that got taken off the shelves back in 2016??? Elon Musk you are a literal genius and when you bought X (formerly twitter) you also bought the rights to Vine. Why not start it back up take the algorithm that these dopamine dependent TikTokers are craving and create something that can rival TikTok and red note. There’s no reason why we should be trying to buy a Chinese owned app when we have an American one on the back burner in X headquarters. You literally build rockets, have created satellites for worldwide Wi-Fi, have created electric vehicles and so much more. With all of the intelligence that surrounds you, it should be fairly easy to get this going. Do not give China a single red cent.

STAR WARS hit screens on this day in 1977. It was one of the first films I saw in the theater. Because it was in theaters for over a year (like RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK would be four years later), I can’t be sure if I saw it in 1977 or 1978, but I do know that I was very young. I remember going with my mom, that it was a matinee, and that we sat in the middle. The seats stand out to me because I remember I had to use the restroom in the middle of the climactic battle scene :) I’d see it multiple times in the theater over its run and would see THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI on their opening weekends. And yes, I remember the marketing for the third film when it was called REVENGE OF THE JEDI. If you did not live through it, it is hard to describe the STAR WARS mania that gripped the country in 1977 and lasted through RETURN OF THE JEDI in 1983. From lines at the theaters to toys to costumes to books to the infamous 1978 STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL, it was an amazing time to be a kid and witness the magic of the movies firsthand through a phenomenon you knew was something extremely special. I can’t be 100% sure that STAR WARS was my first movie in the theater, as during that timeframe I also saw WATERSHIP DOWN (traumatic) and THE RESCUERS (dark) as a double feature with my dad (we had to travel to a city and I found a 9mm bullet in the street – a bullet I still have today), CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND with my grandmother (where I tripped running to the theater with a bowl of popcorn that was almost bigger than I was and spilling it all over the hallway - and I remember how nice the guy was behind the counter who gave us another one for free), and a double feature of ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN and THE BLACK HOLE, but in looking at the dates of those two films I think it was after STAR WARS and that the theater paired an older film (ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN – 1975) with a new film (THE BLACK HOLE – 1979). I just watched the original three films with my youngest son, and it brings me right back…probably the closest I can get to a time machine.

I can’t be 100% sure that STAR WARS was my first movie in the theater, as during that timeframe I also saw WATERSHIP DOWN (traumatic) and THE RESCUERS (dark) as a double feature with my dad (we had to travel to a city and I found a 9mm bullet in the street – a bullet I still have today), CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND with my grandmother (where I tripped running to the theater with a bowl of popcorn that was almost bigger than I was and spilling it all over the hallway - and I remember how nice the guy was behind the counter who gave us another one for free), and a double feature of ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN and THE BLACK HOLE, but in looking at the dates of those two films I think it was after STAR WARS and that the theater paired an older film (ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN – 1975) with a new film (THE BLACK HOLE – 1979). I just watched the original three films with my youngest son, and it brings me right back…probably the closest I can get to a time machine.

On Friday in Evanston, Illinois, chaos ensued when a red car slammed into the back of a DHS vehicle. The car had been tailing the agents in their SUV to warn neighbors of their presence. After the car rear-ended DHS, the driver of the car, passenger, and one other person were arrested. The Trump administration confirmed all three are US citizens. At one point during the arrests, a woman tried to help an arrested woman escape. An agent caught that attempt in the act and threw the helper to the side so he could shove the arrested woman back in the SUV. He then pulled his gun out to defend himself. The man in the green shirt on the ground was handcuffed and arrested. During his arrest, he resisted and was subdued by agents on top of him. Eventually the SUV sped off with the agents and the arrested Americans. The red car was towed away. The crowd had been completely out of control. They were not only screaming at the agents, but reportedly also spitting on them and trying to rush into the SUV from both sides to retrieve the arrested people.
