#BREAKING: Legendary #Maddow: “John Williams’ Imperial March from The Empire Strikes Back…is iconic, instant American pop culture shorthand for you’re looking at tyranny, you’re looking at a despot flexing his power to intimidate innocent people. We viscerally know that’s what you’re looking at when you hear that sound, but in that video that I just showed, the reason the visuals aren’t from any of the Star Wars movies…is because this video, this TikTok was shot by a local guy who lives in Washington DC and this is his recording of him playing The Imperial March from The Empire Strikes Back out loud on his iPhone as Trump’s deployment of the National Guard, has armed troops in uniform patrolling his neighborhood. He did not get in the way of the National Guard patrol, he did not try to block what this National Guard patrol was doing, he just played the iconic song from the Empire Strikes Back on his phone as he walked around after them, conveying satirically, and through music, exactly what this National Guard deployment is. When he did that, a National Guardsman summoned the DC Police to arrest him for it, and they put him in handcuffs for having played that song, but now, he just got paid. He’s just received a $50,000 payment as a settlement for the cops handcuffing him, essentially as punishment for him playing the song from the Empire Strikes Back. His lawsuit against the National Guard is still pending, so there may yet be MORE to come…In an interview with WaPo today…he notes that he does still go out and do this, only now, he doesn’t just do it with his iPhone, now he does it LOUDER, with a portable speaker…”😂😳

STAR WARS hit screens on this day in 1977. It was one of the first films I saw in the theater. Because it was in theaters for over a year (like RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK would be four years later), I can’t be sure if I saw it in 1977 or 1978, but I do know that I was very young. I remember going with my mom, that it was a matinee, and that we sat in the middle. The seats stand out to me because I remember I had to use the restroom in the middle of the climactic battle scene :) I’d see it multiple times in the theater over its run and would see THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI on their opening weekends. And yes, I remember the marketing for the third film when it was called REVENGE OF THE JEDI. If you did not live through it, it is hard to describe the STAR WARS mania that gripped the country in 1977 and lasted through RETURN OF THE JEDI in 1983. From lines at the theaters to toys to costumes to books to the infamous 1978 STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL, it was an amazing time to be a kid and witness the magic of the movies firsthand through a phenomenon you knew was something extremely special. I can’t be 100% sure that STAR WARS was my first movie in the theater, as during that timeframe I also saw WATERSHIP DOWN (traumatic) and THE RESCUERS (dark) as a double feature with my dad (we had to travel to a city and I found a 9mm bullet in the street – a bullet I still have today), CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND with my grandmother (where I tripped running to the theater with a bowl of popcorn that was almost bigger than I was and spilling it all over the hallway - and I remember how nice the guy was behind the counter who gave us another one for free), and a double feature of ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN and THE BLACK HOLE, but in looking at the dates of those two films I think it was after STAR WARS and that the theater paired an older film (ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN – 1975) with a new film (THE BLACK HOLE – 1979). I just watched the original three films with my youngest son, and it brings me right back…probably the closest I can get to a time machine.

joe rogan explains why bears are the scariest animals on the planet. most people are scared of sharks, lions or snakes. joe says bears are in a league of their own. here’s why: grizzlies are so powerful they can chase down a full-grown moose and break its back with a single swipe. joe: “everyone should have a fear of grizzly bears.” they’re massive, incredibly fast, can climb, swim, and overpower almost anything they come across. one of his friends watched a grizzly chase down a full-grown moose and break its back with a single slap. most people think all bears are basically the same. they’re not. joe says polar bears are on a completely different level. because unlike other bears, they don’t have berries, grass or plants to eat. they only eat meat. which means if a polar bear is coming toward you… it’s probably not being curious. joe: “if a polar bear is trying to get into your shelter, it’s because it smells meat. it wants to eat you.” most bears would rather avoid people. but polar bears actively see humans as food. joe tells the story of a group of explorers stranded on an ice raft after their boat started sinking. they spotted a polar bear on a nearby sheet of ice. it jumped into the freezing water swam from one ice sheet to the next until it reached theirs. it grabbed one of the men, dragged him into the water, and started eating him in front of everyone else joe: “they eat you alive. they don’t bother killing you first.” according to joe, most bears don’t actually want to kill people. but if a grizzly decides to attack or a polar bear decides you’re food there’s very little you can do about it.

‼️🚨🇺🇲🇮🇷🇦🇪 BREAKING | The Middle East is teetering on the edge of an apocalyptic economic shutdown—as Tehran issues an explicit, terrifying ultimatum to unleash total devastation on the world’s most critical commercial hubs if Washington strikes back tonight. In a chilling escalation broadcasted through Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency, a senior Iranian security official issued a final warning directly targeting the United Arab Emirates. The decree states that if the United States launches retaliatory strikes against Iranian civilian infrastructure tonight, immediate evacuations must begin at the international airports of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, as well as the mega-ports of Fujairah and Jebel Ali. By holding the UAE’s multi-billion-dollar global transit arteries hostage, Tehran is threatening to instantly paralyze international aviation and freeze a massive portion of global maritime trade in the Persian Gulf. This brazen threat represents a desperate but highly dangerous gamble by a cornered regime, effectively trying to use global economic terror to deter an imminent American kinetic response. By explicitly naming the crown jewels of UAE infrastructure—the literal heart of global tourism and shipping—Tehran is trying to force Gulf nations to pressure Washington into backing down. This operation confirms that Iran is ready to drag the entire global economy into the abyss with them, turning the Persian Gulf into a catastrophic dead zone if the US decides to enforce its red lines tonight.
