A couple of points: 1) Why on earth did you think Labour would be better than the Tories? The Tories were rubbish indeed, however they instinctively take the attitude that individuals know better than govt what is best for them and history proves that kind of works. Labour have an authoritarian bent that always leads to more and more state control and restrictions. 2) UK borrowing has been consistently higher under Reeves than Truss, yet have you mentioned this over the last 18 months (if so and I've missed it I'll take it back)? We are approaching a crisis, and more regulation, more laws, more bans, are not the way to go. The economy needs liberalising, as do personal freedoms. Recall Starmer's first speech as PM included the words "A state that will tread more lightly on your lives . . . " We have had the complete opposite. Crazy regulations that will once more illustrate the Road to Hell principle. Tax rises, freedom of speech clampdowns, attacks on business, bans on internet use, assisted dying (none were in the manifesto) . . . It really is time people of the centre left (which I imagine you probably are) actually look very carefully at the Labour project. You have made a career out of the freedom to mock our 'leaders' (and I applaud you for it, along with everyone else on both left and right - we need them from both sides to promote critical debate), but you should be aware that that freedom can be taken away. And it is more likely to happen under a Labour govt frankly. As to the character of Starmer himself. It is well known that he is exceptionally thin-skinned and holds grudges. His conduct has been poor from the outset: Lord Ali buying him and his wife clothes(!), taking an apartment for free for his son to revise his GCSEs, more foreign travel than any previous PM, etc etc. And then we have Starmer's history BEFORE he became PM. The 'Twitter joke trial back in 2010' where Starmer is reportedly said to have tried to push the prosecution through, (he was head of CPS at the time and this is admittedly disputed). Then Starmer went on social media in 2012 to quantify social media laws: (the Twitter Joke trial gets a mention here too, as well as leniency if posting when drunk and deleting later: someone should have mentioned that to Lucy Connolly, who was jailed for 31 months for a single tweet that she deleted within 4 hours and apologised for). Frankly, anyone who has looked at Starmer's character and attitudes should be more than aware that he is simply not suitable as a leader. He falls for the mistake in believing that if he follows all the rules then it makes him moral. It doesn't. He follows the letter of the law (maybe) but he doesn't acknowledge its spirit: and that is actually more important in a dynamic, shifting messiness of everyday human life. My view: Labour will keep him in until after the May elections. Then's he's gone.

We spend more time talking about Starmer than anything the government has achieved - he is a political liability. He was Mandelsons man and when the Epstein files dropped, he got caught out. He could have just fronted it out as a retrospective mistake - but I don’t think he is good at being wrong.

Quite a few people I've heard recently have mentioned they can now get an NHS dentist again...several have opened up registrations in east Bristol. For all his faults, it's a lot better than the last 14 years.
