The most absurd part is that hot staging has gone from “are they really going to try that?” to “yep, looks nominal.

What an ascent! Congratulations on the epic liftoff and stage separation!

Hot-staging on V3 is the "just trust the physics" moment of modern rocketry — three RVacs + three sea-level Raptors lighting through the vented interstage while the booster is still pushing. Working clean on a brand-new ship + brand-new booster on the first try is the human-engineering upgrade, not the hardware one.

🔥 What you're seeing is two rockets firing at the same time while still attached to each other. The upper stage ignites its engines before the lower stage has finished. They're bolted together. Both burning. The sheer force of the upper engines is what physically pushes them apart.... Engineers called this the riskiest maneuver in the whole program when they first tried it. That was Flight 2. It blew up shortly after. Flight 12 did it clean. 5,812 km/h at separation. Booster turned around and splashed in the Gulf. Ship went halfway around the planet. The gap between Flight 2 and Flight 12 is not two years of waiting. It's two years of solving problems nobody had ever faced before.

That high G turn was something else 🤯. I can see why the engines had trouble after that.

Clean work from SpaceX. Starship stayed steady, the separation was crisp, and that view over Earth is ridiculous.

Is the grid fin heavier than expected? looks like the booster had a lot more rotation after hot staging, compared to usual. and then it looked like it was difficult to regain control.

Most people still think Wernher von Braun was the man who took us to the Moon. They’re only half right. The true father of the entire Space Age was a deaf Polish teacher from a small town — Konstanty Ciołkowski (Konstantin Tsiolkovsky). In 1903 he published his groundbreaking work „The Exploration of Cosmic Space by Means of Reaction Devices” (Исследование мировых пространств реактивными приборами). In it he derived the Tsiolkovsky rocket equation — the fundamental mathematical formula that every single rocket ever built is based on. Falcon 9, Starship, Saturn V, even the old V-2 — all of them use his equation to this day. But Ciołkowski went far beyond the equation. Decades before anyone else, he already designed and described in detail: • multistage rockets • liquid-fuel engines • artificial satellites • orbital space stations • airlocks • space suits • closed-loop life support systems • interplanetary travel He basically laid out the entire blueprint of modern space infrastructure while the Wright brothers were still figuring out basic flight. Wernher von Braun spent his entire life studying Ciołkowski’s works. When the Allies captured his documents in Peenemünde, they found a heavily annotated German translation of Ciołkowski’s 1903 book — almost every page covered in von Braun’s handwritten notes. Von Braun was the brilliant engineer who turned the vision into metal and fire… but the vision, the mathematics, and the complete system (from satellites to orbital stations) came directly from the Polish genius. Poland didn’t just give the world Copernicus and Chopin. We also gave humanity the mathematical and conceptual foundation for leaving Earth.
