Starting today, San Francisco is going from having the longest permitting process to one of the shortest. This is a huge deal. I was proud to join Senator Senator Scott Wiener and pro-housing supporters to celebrate SB 423 going into effect, which will streamline the housing approval process in... Spent the day at LeFrak City in Queens talking to residents about affordable housing With a 1% vacancy rate, NYC is in the midst of a housing crisis — how do you solve it? Build, build, build. There are over 1K sites ready to be developed today. Cut the red tape, expedite the permitting process and get shovels in the ground, generating good paying jobs in the process. The Council's #CityForAll housing plan with $5 billion of investments and modified zoning changes are estimated to create over 80,000 new homes, while helping to strengthen neighborhoods and make housing more affordable. This is the most pro-housing plan in NYC history, including the first citywide zoning text amendment designed to create new homes with our modification to open every part of the city to affordable housing through inclusionary zoning.

You saw my recent video showing low to middle-income homes at Catherine Estates. Today we look at development taking place in other sections of the housing market. While we have made significant strides in providing middle and affordable housing, we recognize the challenges in the low-income and achievable housing markets. That’s why we continue to incentivize development, provide land, and introduce initiatives like the Guaranteed Purchase Programme (GPP) to attract more builders to this sector. We want to see developers build 10,000 homes at a time, bringing houses to market at a much faster rate. With continued investment, capacity-building, and a long-term vision, we will ensure that every Jamaican has access to safe, affordable housing. We are committed to delivering quality housing for Jamaicans under our housing policy and the transformation of Bernard Lodge is just the beginning. As we continue on this journey, we reaffirm our commitment to the people of Jamaica, because under our housing policy, homeownership is a promise we intend to keep.

Artists will soon have access to 94 affordable homes at 1687 Market Street in San Francisco. Today we broke ground on Artists Hub on Market. In addition to homes for low-income artists, arts workers, arts administrators, entertainment workers, and their families, there will be rehearsal rooms, a black box theatre, and services supporting the arts. Our city is stronger and more vibrant when artists can live in the city where they work. With this groundbreaking, we’re sending a clear message to our arts community: you have a future in San Francisco. Residents will be certified through a new Artist Housing Certification Program run by the Arts Commission, ensuring these homes go to active creative workers. This project is designed to be replicated, so we can build more homes like this across the city, and it is funded thanks to a generous $100 million gift from an anonymous donor and tax-exempt bonds shepherded by the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development. San Francisco residents have finally had enough and file a lawsuit against the City of San Francisco over the large concentration of homeless “People living in the south of market neighborhood have filed a complaint against the city. They claim the concentration of homeless resources and affordable housing — This complaint, it’s 47 pages long and the local neighborhood association says it's the result of years of not being heard by the city — These residents say the high concentration of homeless support, resources and affordable housing are leading to what they call a deliberate hyper-concentration of poverty” “The Soma West Neighborhood Association says after years of no action by the city, they filed a complaint to the state alleging the city is violating state housing law and civil rights mandates — This complaint basically says segregation is illegal, so you should, the state requires you to take affirmative steps to desegregate.”

Thanks to the provincial government and Ministers Nathan Neudorf and Jason Nixon, we just broke ground on the first phase of Southview, the largest affordable housing project in Calgary Housing Company history! This is personal for me. I grew up only blocks away in East Calgary. I know how much a stable home and a strong community matter for families. Working with the Province of Alberta, Calgary Housing, and our federal partners, we are building 250 new homes here. These will include one, two, three, and four-bedroom homes, with near-market, affordable, and deeply affordable options. When Council repealed blanket rezoning, we made a clear commitment. We would focus on affordable housing and build the homes Calgarians need, in the right places, with real support for families. That is what this project, and the many more to come, delivers. Calgary is growing toward two million people. We need practical solutions that help people find a home, stay in their community, and build a better future. I am proud of this partnership and grateful to everyone who helped make today happen. This is a major investment in East Calgary, in families, and in a city where everyone has a place to call home.

In Congress, I’m a cosponsor of the Yes In My Backyard Act (YIMBY) bill, which will prioritize federal dollars for communities that reduce the red tape limiting housing construction. I’m also a champion of getting shop class back in junior high. We’ll fix our housing shortage by reducing red tape, building more housing units, and ensuring young people learn the skills they need to build homes right here in Southwest Washington.

I did not vote for the ROAD to Housing Act because we are $39 TRILLION in debt. I’m all for making housing more affordable for American families. But expanding the already bloated Department of Housing and Urban Development is not the answer. Not to mention this bill writes a blank check to blue cities, which we all know will end up going to ILLEGALS, not American citizens.
