To his credit, the trooper immediately de-escalated, realized the gravity of his mistake, and apologized profusely on the scene. Abandoned puppy plays with an Ohio trooper after being rescued from the side of the I-71. The Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper was doing a routine check at a rest area when he found the abandoned puppy inside a crate. The trooper played with the dog before putting him in the cruiser. The driver, identified as Franklin Javier Hernandez, eventually pulled into a local Casey's gas station. ​Upon making contact, Trooper Davis noted clear signs of intoxication and requested identification. When Trooper Davis attempted to detain Hernandez and secure his hands, Hernandez physically resisted and broke free, initiating a foot pursuit across the gas station parking lot. An altercation ensued as Trooper Davis moved to apprehend him, Hernandez broke free and a foot pursuit was in play. Oklahoma sheriff department and local PD have a blow up while out on a call. The conflict began when a Lexington Police officer pulled over a black SUV for speeding (85 mph in a 55 mph zone). The driver was Cleveland County Sheriff Chris Amason, who was in a marked vehicle but was out of uniform. Amason informed the officer he was responding to a high-priority "SWAT call" involving a barricaded subject and an injured officer in the nearby town of Noble. The Lexington officer allowed the Sheriff to proceed but immediately notified his Chief. When Lexington Police Chief Ronnie Johnson and his officers arrived at the active tactical scene to offer assistance and investigate why their local police hadn't been notified of an operation in their jurisdiction, the situation escalated. Lieutenant John Szymanski of Cleveland County Sheriff's Office confronted the Lexington officers, telling them to "get the f*** out of my face." A physical scuffle broke out between Lieutenant Szymanski and a Lexington officer. Szymanski is seen grabbing and shoving the officer while shouting, "This is my county!" ​ Sheriff Amason eventually intervened, telling the Lexington Chief that it was his operation and his county, essentially ordering the local police to leave the scene. This morning, we lost one of our very finest when Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Michael Pahira died in the line of duty in Schuylkill County. I just left Lehigh Valley Hospital – Schuylkill where I spent time with Mike's parents, Patti and Mike, his sister, Jen, and some of his friends and fellow troopers. They told me about Mike — about how great a man he was, about his high school wrestling record, his love of cooking, and his commitment to caring for his mother as she battles cancer. Trooper Pahira was the very best of us — Lori and I are praying for the PA State Police family and our local law enforcement partners after losing another one of their own. I’ve directed flags across the Commonwealth to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Trooper Pahira. May his memory forever be a blessing.
