STATEMENT ON THE SECURITY SITUATION IN ANG'ATA BARRIKOI, TRANSMARA SOUTH SUB-COUNTY I wish to extend a message of heartfelt condolences to the families of the people who lost their lives today during the skirmishes that ensued in Ang'ata Barrikoi over a disagreement stemming from land demarcation exercise. I regret... that the situation led to needless loss of lives and injuries both to the police and civilians. Investigations are ongoing to establish the number of deaths, the people responsible for the deaths and those who instigated the tension. Security has been beefed up in the area and we appeal for calm and restraint. We want to thank God for those great men and women who devoted themselves to the service of the nation and in the line of duty, lost their lives while others were maimed or became incapacitated. Some died in the course of battle, some died as a result of injuries sustained in the course of protecting the nation, and they left their loved ones behind. As an institution, the armed forces are very crucial and central to the survival of every nation, and I must admit, like every institution in Nigeria, things have not been well. As a government, we will continue to provide the necessary tools and enabling environment for the Armed Forces to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities of protecting the lives and property of citizens in the State. We will continue to honor our fallen heroes who sacrificed for our nation’s security.

Today, 14th April 2025, we have just concluded an expanded security council meeting comprising security chiefs and local government chairmen, convened in response to the attack that came to our attention early this morning. At around midnight, into the early hours of today, over a hundred bandits descended on one of the communities in Bassa Local Government Area, leaving behind a trail of destruction numerous lives lost and several houses destroyed. We have received detailed briefings from the heads of the various security agencies regarding the incident. We are working diligently to establish exactly what happened and why, so that we can respond appropriately and prevent such incidents in the future. At the moment, the situation in the area is relatively calm. We have engaged with the affected community, urging the people to remain calm and avoid any retaliatory actions that could further escalate tensions. We are grateful that the youths of the community listened to our appeal. We are currently considering far-reaching decisions aimed at preventing future occurrences. The details of some of these decisions will be shared during my broadcast tomorrow. In the meantime, I want to reassure the people of Plateau State that we are firmly in control of the situation, and we will go to any length necessary to prevent a recurrence. I also want to encourage citizens across the state: if you come across any intelligence no matter how insignificant it may seem please report it to the authorities. Deeply pained and saddened by the tragic loss of lives due to the collapse of an under-construction warehouse building near Brace Bridge in Taratala, where several workers got trapped beneath the debris. So far 21 people have been pulled out of the collapsed structure, out of which 18 are injured and 3 people have lost their lives. Words fail to express my sorrow for the precious lives lost in this tragedy. My deepest condolences go out to their bereaved families. The State Government stands firmly with them in this hour of unimaginable grief and we will extend all possible support to them. Rescue and relief operations are currently being carried out on a war footing. The Army, NDRF, SDRF, Kolkata Police and KMC are jointly conducting the rescue operations to ensure every trapped worker is brought to safety as quickly as possible.
