Most Home DIY fails don’t happen because people are careless. They happen because the internet sold them a fantasy version of physics, materials, and time. The expensive part isn’t the materials. It’s the second trip to the store, the drywall repair, the ruined weekend, and the quiet decision to never try that project again. Real DIY success isn’t about never failing. Accept that the video that said “this takes 20 minutes” was filmed by someone who already owned every tool and had done it twelve times. The projects that last are the ones where the person slowed down long enough to respect the materials instead of trying to outsmart them. I once renovated a whole house and it took four years for completion. A lot of mistakes were made that were frustrating but it was also very fulfilling. Mining and ore processing, is the second most polluting industry in the world, releasing acid rain and heavy metals into land, water, and air. Extracting and processing dispersed minerals consumes significant fossil fuel energy. Billions more tons of materials are needed for transmission, power plants, and utility-scale batteries, also replaced every 15-20 years. The green energy dream remains just that—a dream.
