Ngizwe Mchunu Shuts Down Steers Restaurant Controversial Podcast and Chill Network presenter Ngizwe Mchunu is at it again. This comes after a video emerged showing the President of Bhinca Nation arriving at the controversial Steers franchise in Berea, Durban, on Wednesday. In the video, Mchunu who was fired from Ukhozi FM many years ago is seen asking one of the tellers if he can speak to the manager. The lady laughs and does not indicate whether she is the manager or not. Mchunu arrived at Steers accompanied by former workers who were fired for staging a protest against their employer. On Tuesday, Labour and Civic Organisation (LACO) representatives visited the shop and shut it down as well.

The City of San Diego just passed a $25/hr minimum wage for some hotels, Sea World and Petco Park, but not for city workers. According to the City Council, employees at these businesses deserve a “living wage,” but what about workers at the other businesses? What about the workers at City Hall? The City acknowledged they can’t expand this to workers at City Hall because it’s too expensive. If the City is unwilling to subject themselves to their own policy, maybe it’s just bad policy.

China Hyper workers in Scotsville were red-faced after a man arrived and said the Department of Labor would fire them after they reported labor problems to LACO. Then he handed over LACO and actually grabbed the man's hand and put the money on the table and said he was taking it away. The employer ended up paying the workers a minimum wage for 10 hours per day which was R2400 for 1 week. Their employees sign contracts and are registered with UIF and work in accordance with all the rules. The phenomenon of paying workers R100 a day for 10 hours has ended. LACO is the hope of the workers and the people of South Africa!!!!!!

Reports have alleged that Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa kept hundreds of billions of naira in bank accounts, specifically about N500billion at FirstBank Nigeria just to generate interests for himself and cronies while the people of Ondo struggle with poverty, unemployment, failing schools, and collapsing healthcare. At the same time, billions are allegedly available for political campaigns and re-election projects, for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Imo State Governor is treasurer of heist worth N800billion in stashed campaign funds for Tinubu while workers, teachers, nurses, police officers, and soldiers are told that paying them a living wage is “impossible and that it will cost inflation” Nigeria does not have a shortage of money. When an American company posts a $19.4 billion profit and works the system by scheduling their workers approximately 35 hours per week so they don’t have to pay for healthcare benefits, because they’re not “full-time” while paying and unlivable wage, this exemplifies corporate greed, the fact that taxpayers have to subsidize their workers so they can merely survive is a travesty.

Since then productivity has grown 2.5x, but the real minimum wage is today half. Moving to $25 is making sure workers are being paid for what they produce.

If the value of low skill labor is below that line, the worker is priced out of a job. It does not magically make labor more valuable. In America Samoa, they cut thousands of jobs within 3 years (2007). In Seattle, a University of Washington study found that earnings of low wage workers fell as a result of hours lost (2015). In France, the minimum wage is so high relative to average pay that youth unemployment in the banlieues was at 25% for decades. In South Africa, households stopped hiring domestic workers they could no longer afford (2019). But if you’re an established worker who wants to eliminate the competition, it could be a solid move to support it.

And restaurants are replacing jobs with machines or, of course, shutting down. Now the governor wants to exempt state operations from the minimum wage. Shame about the other 500,000 Californian workers on the chopping block.
