Every decade since its inception we get a few slam dunk contest that are amazing and the rest are either mid or duds. Its a cycle

LeBron played a part. 2000 vince won it. 2002-2004 we saw Jason Richardson. None of those were bad. LeBron was the first big time dunker to not do it. Now majority of the great dunkers won’t do it.

I’m still confused as to what that does for the entire weekend because if he “helps the dunk contest” but the All-Star game is still trash what’s the difference it’d be the same.

If LeBron competed and was trash he would’ve never lived it down. If you’re him you have to protect your image and the cost/benefit ratio is not in favor of doing it. He also is more robotic when he dunks he’s never been super creative with his dunks.
