Noah Lyles' comments are not ignorant, Stephen A's comments are. The NBA is not a world league because you have international players. It is simply a domestic league which allows international talent. The winners of the NBA Championship are NBA champions period - at the most North American champions considering that there is a Canadian based team in the league. Even the great Greg Popovich has a problem with winners being called world champions. Is Pop ignorant too @stephenasmith??? The best soccer players are considered to be in the Champions League, guess what? They're champions of that league, not the world & there are more represented nationalities in that league than the NBA. FIFA has a club world cup, the winners of that cup can claim world champion status. The last time the US were world champions of basketball was 2014 & that's the last time the USA won a medal as well. Spain are the current world champions and the USA still has bragging rights as the current Olympic champions having been very dominant at that competition.

All this is true but it's not The World Championship lol I don't understand what's so hard to comprehend here. The best football in the world gets played in Champions League but it's not Champions Leagues world championship because there are a lot Tournaments and leagues everywhere same Applies here

The NBA championship is not one that is contested by teams from across the world. The championship is contested by American based teams (even though they have foreign players). The only way the NBA champions can be referred to as world champions is if the competition is contested for by teams representing all the continents of the world. FIBA WC, FIFA WC, IAAF World Athletics Championship, Olympics. Do you understand now what true world championship is? This has nothing to do with quality or strength of the league.

Weak take. The NBA is the greatest domestic basketball league in the world. A domestic league cannot become international because of the quality of the players, no matter how great they are or where they are from. If that were so then Manchester City are the world champions of football, not Argentina.

@stephenasmith I spoke about the flaws of American exceptionalism the other day and this is just another example. These people are so caught up in their bubble that they fail to realise that there is a world outside America.

@stephenasmith The way Americans are misinterpreting this is wild. Noah Lyles is just speaking the facts. The NBA is top-notch, but it's still a domestic league. Only Americans win domestic titles and claim to be world champions. They pull the same move with the NFL and MLB, too.
