The Dead Zone (1983) Throughout the film Christopher Walken was required to involuntarily flinch as he received visions. This was achieved by director David Cronenberg firing a .357 Magnum loaded with blanks off camera without warning. Might seem cruel, but it was Walken's idea.

"The Dead Zone" (1983) was the first movie David Cronenberg directed in which he didn't write the screenplay himself. Initially five scripts were written, one of them was by Stephen King, which Cronenberg thought was "Terrible, really ugly unpleasant slasher script" and which, if he had filmed, King's fans would have torn him apart for doing & considered Cronenberg as the one who destroyed the work. Andrzej Żuławski wrote one of the scripts. Even though, Cronenberg didn't like any of the scripts, he selected the one by Jeffrey Boam, which he thought was best of the five. Leonardo DiCaprio was initially considered for the role of David McCall in "Fear" (1996), DiCaprio didn't think he was right for the role, but he put in a good word for friend Mark Wahlberg to director James Foley after working with him on "The Basketball Diaries" (1995). James Foley & Mark Wahlberg spent a day hanging out and discussing about the part. Afterwards Wahlberg was told by Foley that he really liked him but that he wouldn't be considered for the lead role of David McCall. Wahlberg was subsequently offered to come in to audition for one of David's criminal friends and impressed Foley so much that Foley told the studio that he would back out of directing the movie if Wahlberg didn't get to play David. P.S: Happy 55th birthday, Mark Wahlberg!

I guess it's Thursday, so Pahlavi is back to advocating war with Iran. Tomorrow, Friday, he will say that he has never advocated war. On top of that, he calls those killed in the war he advocated for (on Thursdays, that is) "collateral damage." By so openly being a tool of foreign powers, he has made it so much easier for the Iranian gov to claim the mantle of Iranian nationalism.
