Steve Bannon tells @BillMaher that the 22nd Amendment is "open for interpretation": "President Trump is going to run for a 3rd term and President Trump is going to be elected again. On the afternoon of January 20th of 2029. He's going to be President of the United States."

@billmaher I understand and agree that we can't ignore half the country, but why platform somebody as radical as Steve Bannon? You are normalizing his brand of extremism.

@billmaher As someone who voted Trump in 2024, I don't support this.

Insane. There is no room for "interpretation." The 22nd Amendment is clear. Lunatics and con men can spin fantasies about getting around the Amendment (by, e.g. electing someone as President who appoints Trump to be Secretary of State; the President, Vice President, and Speaker of the House then resigning so that he becomes President again without being elected to the office) but they are *fantasies*.

@billmaher Bannon is a retard. Simple as that.

@billmaher Bannon would look great back in jail.

@billmaher This nonsense needs to stop. I voted for Trump in two Primaries and 3 General Elections. I love Donald Trump! I would never vote for him in a 3rd term. It would disgrace his legacy if he even tried. I would vote for AOC before a Trump third term!

@billmaher This is what I'm talking about... The 10% extremists, from both sides, get all the press and retweets, and cause the most panic for the other 80% of us. To my fellow Americans on the normal left, be clear... This won't happen. Why? The other 80% of us won't let it happen.

WTF? Maher didn’t challenge a shred of this fascist BS. He sat there grinning like a damn concierge simp while Bannon pissed all over the Constitution. No pushback. No fire. Just a limp joke and a stage for sedition. Bill's a coward. Bannon lit the match, and Maher passed him the gas can with a smirk.

Bannon is wrong. Trump cannot and will not serve a third term. Period. Some claim that Donald Trump could serve a third term because the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution only states that no one may be elected more than twice — not that a person cannot serve a third time. In fact, the 22nd Amendment, which was ratified in 1951, reads as follows: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.” This amendment clearly states that a person may only be elected president twice. It does not say that one may serve more often. Some people now argue that a president who has been elected twice could later become vice president and then, if the sitting president resigns or dies, assume the presidency once again through this loophole. But this theory is impossible, because the 12th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states: “But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.” This amendment makes it clear that anyone who is not eligible to be elected president under the Constitution is also not eligible to be elected vice president. Since Trump is no longer eligible to be elected president, he is also not eligible to be elected vice president. This rules out any possibility of him becoming president again through the vice presidency, even if the sitting president resigns or dies. It is therefore both theoretically and practically impossible for Donald Trump to serve a third term as president, even via the detour of the vice presidency.

@billmaher Remember when a "living Constitution" was leftist idea?
