at a bibimbap place and a young guy next to me just said “I’ve actually forgotten how to use forks because I spent so long in Japan” to his date do I say something do I save her

@5tevieM Ahahaha OK that is excruciating. But reverse culture shock is genuinely painful! I came back to the UK in 2011 (not from Japan!) and tbh I never stopped feeling like I wanted to leave again.

@5tevieM Oh yes. I left Australia in 2002 and everytime I return I marvel at something which is technically incredibly mainstream there!

@5tevieM The bag of jasmine rice actually sent me overboard

@5tevieM I went to Japan last year - a holiday that I'd wanted to go on for 20 years - and not wanting to be this guy has made talking about it feel really awkward even when bringing up my trip is relevant or everyone is talking about their holidays.

@5tevieM Omg this is so perfect (and as someone who grew up *in Japan* *cough*, I am recognising myself and quietly mortified).

@5tevieM The rice bag lift at the end 😂

@5tevieM This is cringe but tbh I feel the point about green tea haha. I’ve always hated green tea (teabags) but my mandarin teacher is from Taiwan and she prepared it for us with loose leaf tea (from Taiwan) with a special tea set and it tasted amazing. It’s like a different drink lol

@5tevieM I’m that way about the Italian language. 😅 It just grates on my ears when someone asks for two cappuccinos.😬😖 But I come by it honestly I guess? My grandma immigrated from there and I loved practicing with her what I’d learned.

@5tevieM The only people who don’t relate to this guy are people who haven’t been to Japan, it’s just different
