.The House of the Rising Sun" is an American traditional folk song, sometimes called "Rising Sun Blues". It tells of a person's life gone wrong in the city of New Orleans. Many versions also urge a sibling or parents and children to avoid the same fate. The most successful commercial version, recorded in 1964 by the English rock band The Animals, was a number one hit on the UK Singles Chart and in the U.S. and Canada.

In around 1962-63 Eric Burdon, age 21, joined the group the Alan Price Rhythm and Blues Combo and they came up with the name The Animals

Agreed: a masterpiece 61 years later. Think about how many songs are truly classics over such a long period. This is such a good example of the good versus evil choices people make in their lifetime.

Since I live near New Orleans and my mother was a seamster and my father was a pro poker player, I always loved the song. My father didn't drink, though.

Funny story: when I was taking piano lessons, as a kid. I had a recital in a church. I played this song. I think I’ve been cursed ever since. 😂
