.The House of the Rising Sun" is an American traditional folk song, sometimes called "Rising Sun Blues". It tells of a person's life gone wrong in the city of New Orleans. Many versions also urge a sibling or parents and children to avoid the same fate. The most successful commercial version, recorded in 1964 by the English rock band The Animals, was a number one hit on the UK Singles Chart and in the U.S. and Canada.

Incredible! Eric Burden at 23 years old singing like he’s done 50 years of hard labor.

I love how they're all these sort of straight looking guys, wearing these awful brown suits and not being freaks but then the music is just amazing - lyrics deep and dark, singer is possessed, keyboardist is melting brains with his sick jam ...

Chas Chandler on bass went on to discover Jimi Hendrix and was also involved in getting Newcastle Arena built, Alan Price on keyboards had a very successful solo career.

Eric looking straight into the camera like that makes this one the sexiest videos EVER. You don't need to gyrate and be nude to be sexy. You just need the je ne sais quoi Eric has.

House of the Rising Sun goes all the way back to 1925 ! This is the absolute best cover of it, ever.

A brilliantly haunting song that carries a message of dark fate and bad decisions with an almost eerie voodoo’ish essence. I’ve always loved this song because it brings you into a story with fantastic music.

Agreed: a masterpiece 61 years later. Think about how many songs are truly classics over such a long period. This is such a good example of the good versus evil choices people make in their lifetime.

Since I live near New Orleans and my mother was a seamster and my father was a pro poker player, I always loved the song. My father didn't drink, though.

Funny story: when I was taking piano lessons, as a kid. I had a recital in a church. I played this song. I think I’ve been cursed ever since. 😂

OMG I've heard this song obvs but presumed they were more like rockers! I'd never expect this voice to come out of this guy! Or for a band called The Animals to look or dress like that! 😲

My dad's favourite song. He took us on a two month trip across the USA one summer, without knowing a single word of english, armed with tapes of Elvis and Americana. Almost cost him a divorce 🤣
