$Don’t forget: every time to draw something, you improve by the tiniest fraction. And the longer you’ve been drawing, the smaller that fraction. But it’s still an improvement. And the longer you’ve been drawing, the faster you are. It compounds. You’ve got to remember that, or it’s too easy to lose motivation.$

Don’t think you’re improving? Keep drawing. Feel like you’re improving crazy fast? Keep drawing. May as well not even worry about how fast it’s happening and do the outcome anyway.

I honestly can't think of many drawing exercises for learning about perspective and rotating forms than drawing skeletons from imagination. Plus, you're refreshing your anatomy as a little bonus.

Today's offerings to the drawing gods. Roughly 90 minutes in 30 seconds.

I think drawing vehicles is one of the best ways to develop your drawing. The forms are relatively large and simple, but they're also subtly curved. And the proportions really matter. For example, if the wheels are too small, it immediately looks cartooned.

Q: 'What's the point of you drawing when AI can do it better and faster?' A: It's the act or feeling of doing something creative that IS the real outcome. Not the drawing others see. I think that's what keeps most artists learning - the feeling and mental state the drawing generates while you do it. Equally, if you want to skip that, you go for it.

Take plenty of breaks from drawing. It's fine to burnout. It's fine to miss days, weeks or even months. The paper will always be there after. The only timescale that really matters for your drawing is years. It's a marathon.

Recommend me some of the best drawing artists (especially animators) on X, please! I need some more motivation this week.

For all sorts of slightly technical reasons, the more you use a ballpoint, the better the ink flow gets. And the smoother the drawing experience becomes. If I could buy them half-full and already pre-used, I really would.
