A young Joanna Cassidy before being known for Blade Runner as replicant Zhora Salome.

That brief shot of the distorted mask is worse than almost anything I’ve seen in an analogue horror.

Is the lady Joanna Cassidy?

Yes indeed!

Even the Ad Council realized this was a little TOO scary. They replaced it years later with a basic removal of the mask.

Yeah the cowards!

Could've definitely did without this image

In the 1970's and 80's, the UK had some pretty terrifying adverts and public information films. @ScarredForLife2 is worth a follow for more. This ad is burned in my memory. Trigger warning, this is disturbing...

@ScarredForLife2 Yeah that's true one of the most horrific and nauseating commercials of all time

No

The 1973 anti-drug commercial with the toy monkey (a child's voice says "Isn't it cute?") where the camera suddenly zooms up to a freeze-frame close-up of an actual monkey baring its jagged teeth is scarier.

the half torn face sequence was totally unnecessary

@SuperSa66222908 Replace unnecessary with AWESOME

I remember that when I was a little girl. Didn't know that decades later I'd have faced some big wildfires in my firefighting career. (Being a firefighter wasn't on my radar until my late 20s!)

I remember the snake dealer shows his snake face and hisses.

Yeah, cuz what kinda Puppet Master bullshit is this?!

I remember watching this with Saturday morning cartoons when I was little! Scared the SHIT out of me! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

This like a reverse furry?

try watching it in 0.5 speed. how horrifying

I’d raise you any UK public information film

they had fires back then ? - wow I only thought global warming caused them

Only in our butts

Donald Pleasance. Drowning PSA (1973).

I'm too much of a coward to watch it. Is it scarier than the commercial for It's Alive? Seeing that honestly traumatized me.

I'd call this a PSA rather than a commercial. There were some damn terrifying PSAs back in the day. Look up "Natural Born Smoker", "Scavengers" by LYNX, "Skinned" by Respect for Animals, "Shoeboxes" by Africare, and "The Spirit of Dark and Lonely Water" (ft. Donald Pleasence!).

Joanna Cassidy in it and Eve Plumb in another one of the most scariest. Even if I was a kid, I wouldn't buy it. 😱

GAAAAAH HORRIFYING MEMORY UNLOCKED! Gah!

But the news reporters told me climate change was starting the fires. 🙄

This is possibly the thing that shows how desensitized I have become because I didn’t think it was scary. I think I’m more alarmed about that! 😬

WTF!! The Drug PSA “Snake” and The Swimming Pool ones were the scariest for me

No mention of blazers from space. Pfff

Holy shit, I did not expect that. Thank you for this. I don’t remember the last time I was genuinely scared 💀💀💀

Smokey the Catfish

Catfished by Smokey The Bear is crazy work
