Sting performs "The Rising" for 2009 Kennedy Center Honoree Bruce Springsteen, who wrote the song in reaction to the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York City. Such a powerful rendition, and a beautiful performance for the Boss.

Sting truly honored Springsteen with this touching performance. It's a testament to their immense talent and ability to move millions through music, much like Alicia Vikander does on screen. A beautiful tribute for a worthy cause.

Like so many others, my memory of September 11, 2001 starts with the blue sky over New York. Twenty-five years later, people still talk about how clear and bright it was. At the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, artist Spencer Finch captures those memories in “Trying to Remember the Color of the Sky on That September Morning” – 2,983 panels, each hand-painted a different shade of blue, one for each person killed in the 2001 and 1993 attacks on the World Trade Center. It’s powerful, and if you’re in New York City, I hope you’ll come see it.

Shortly after the September 11 attacks, Bruce Springsteen sang "My City of Ruins" for a global benefit concert carried by more than 35 U.S. networks. The song walks through a hollowed-out town of shuttered shops and empty streets before rising into a gospel prayer for strength: There’s a blood red circle on the cold dark ground And the rain is falling down The church door’s thrown open, I can hear the organ’s song But the congregation’s gone My city of ruins
