Guadalupe-Hidalgo acquisition was paid for by the US. The US also assumed all of Mexico's debts at the time. In exchange for the purchase, the US withdrew from Mexico City, which had been conquered by the US. The Gadsden purchase also involved payment by the US. You cannot agree to sell land, sign over the deeds, and then claim it was stolen. Might as well say Louisiana was stolen from the French and Alaska stolen from the Russians... all were lawful land sales..

It’s actually even easier to understand. Mexico was broke and sold the southwest for $15 million dollars. It was a huge mistake and within 100 hours gold was found in California. Just because you make a bad deal doesn’t change the deal in any way. It is amazing how Mexicans have any pride in that nation.

Then we purchased the land. They need to cough up the dough if they want it back.

I remember meeting a gay Turkish immigrant in RI at a library. He asked me about being on "stolen land." I explained conquest, and asked why the deed to my land was no good, but his citizenship papers were, despite being issued by the same US government

The history of the world is that of conquest. A common term for people from England is “Anglo-Saxon.” The Angles and Saxons are Germanic, Saxony is a German State. Before Europeans arrived in the Americas, the indigenous tribes and civilizations waged war among themselves and conquered each others’ lands. Unique to the end of the Mexican-American War, the US left the Mexican Capitol and didn’t annex the country. The US paid Mexico for the lands ceded in the treaty.

Land is never stolen. It is almost always conquered.

As someone of Native American ancestry, I support this. This stolen land argument is a fantasy as is the antiquated views of Native Americans living in peace and harmony.
