How ever did I survive all my 60-ish years, raised in a family with 8-kids - on a farm - and towels were only washed on Sundays. BTW: tossing towels on the line and letting them air in the breeze is something you scrub-wearing city-cave dwellers wouldn't know a thing about.

Stop using towels. The towel that comes out of the washing machine is wet and immediately starts growing bacteria. The only way to be safe is to air dry. And even that can be dangerous. Your skin and hair are prime environments for growing mold and bacteria. Just incinerate.
