Actually, there's even a micro generation coined as Xenial. This is a small group of people who at the tail end of the Gen X and the very beginning of the Millennial generation, typically described as 1979/80-1984/85. They basically witnessed the transition of the analog technology to digital technology in the prime of their youth. Older Gen X'rs grew up mostly in analog, and younger Millennials grew up in a digital era... But the Xenials went from playing with rubix cubes to Nintendo in only a few years... They saw the transition from the popularity of the tape player to the CD player... And then later the MP3 player, all in the same childhood... It's a fascinating micro generation, that bridges the gap between the two of them.

We are perfectly positioned to save the world.

We were also the first Gen to get hammered with vaccines….ergo arrival of neurodivergence, etc. Or were we just called Gen 𝕏 because the ‘scientists’ didn’t know what they were creating at that point? 🤔

So we’re superheroes then. 🤔 😃

Great video essay. Brilliantly argued. My contribution to the debate;

These capabilities are true of late boomers, too (’61-’64). Im the youngest of six and born in '64. My siblings are all born in the ‘50s, one year apart. I have nothing in common with them. The '61-'64 boomers were in Jr High/High school when “tech” hit the scene.

I find these generalizations of generations to be dangerous in the same way that racism is dangerous. I prefer to deal with people as individuals and not pay attention to their age group.

Excellent take: I had never given thought to the fact that this was the only generation with the exception of a few later generation boomers that had a take on both the pre internet world and the internet world. This alone makes this generation extremely unique as they did bridge the gap and have an understanding of Two almost completely different worlds. Thank You !!

Anyone born in the 70s and 80s all years are very special. There is a big difference though between the old gen X and the young gen X...the one's that were teens in the 90s are a special breed of human. Either way, everyone is special in their own way. The elders need to teach!

That is a brilliant take and is so very true. As an Xer I can relate to that very easily. I’d definitely be fine without my technology even tho it’s nice to have. But I hate my boys do t know the world the way I did.

Yup! We’re awesome 😎

A great illustration for this point is understanding the difference between knowing when it’s most efficient to text vs. pick up a phone and call someone. The younger generations seem to be afraid to engage in certain human interactions. They perceive mundane, routine interactions as risky.

AND many of us had close contact and input from grandparents from the greatest generation who had survived the depression. We remember the stories of wwii, Vietnam, jfk... Children now don't have quite the same input from grandparents. Young parents consult their phone instead

Generations are often delineated by the sign Pluto is in because it takes 11-30 years to transit a sign (248 years to orbit the Sun). Anyone born in that period have the same Pluto astrological sign. Other outer planets like Neptune (13-14 yrs) also imbue similar characteristics

#GenX we know exactly what was done to us. We knew what they were doing to us at the time. When we were kids. We resented it then and we still do. We knew they were willing to give us debt and inflation. We knew they were taking what was meaningful for granted. We always knew they would burn our future to the ground if only to serve themselves. And here we are. I like a lot about what you said. However: While we were walked on…we are not your bridge.

I feel like I have heard pieces of this before, but she puts it together in a really clear way. Hats off to her!

Yup.

I agree. My example is the progression from 78 rpm records, LP albums, cassette tapes, VHS, CDs, laser discs, digital tape (fail), DVDs, MP3s, iPods, streaming. All in one generation.

We had mean ass boomer parents we never listened to we made our own set of rules and raised ourselves

Nah, we're just the last generation before the communist brainwashing took effect.

Gen Xer here that was pretty spot on, really on. We didn't have a computer class in the late 90s. I had to take a typing class with a typewriter and not a fancy one. Good times.

Haha This was my next video Honary Gen X parenting here

She’s moreso referring to millennials. Sorry it is what it is.

Gotta add millennials in there. All of my high school was waiting 45 mins for my me page to load cause the internet was the new thing. Still was faster going to the library. Can anyone imagine having to go to the library to look up all information? Or forced to ask a friend? Crazy.

I think you can thank boomers who took psychedelics for everything that got turned upside down. You just didn't hear about their stories because there were few connections then

YEEEEEESSSSSSSS I was taking Typing in hs, the computers came in & next day I was taking Keyboarding. A year ago I said I wasn’t going to learn AI. I have learned so much in computers, cell phones, iPads/iPods, smart tv etc etc Then it became obvious I needed to learn how to use.

We are probably similar to the lost generation 1883-1900. Born at the edge of the Wild West days and traveled by horse throughout childhood, then automobiles, telephones, and electricity in adulthood.

It is a burden for some of us—I mean that honestly. I was a pro-techie in the ’80s to 00s. Now I’d have it all undone for daily life before the 90s. That can make one feel like a communal outcast. I am grateful to be alive but the duality is tough sometimes, knowing what is lost.

She’s talking about a NEW CONSCIOUSNESS that GenX is the trendsetter for. Having grown up as a middle child in a dysfunctional alcoholic divorced household healing my Generational Trauma is a NECESSITY for survival. Nobody knows what a totally healed Human looks like but we will!

and we all thought we’d die in a nuclear war. One of the best things about being Gen X was the music. The birth of Hip Hop and the Rave scene then Grunge and shoegaze. And the BEST thing of all there were NO CELL PHONES 🤘🏽

I've been saying something to this effect for awhile now. Us Gen X are the last generation to know what actual Freedom is, and value it.

So many millennials in the comments…true to form, “yeah, but it’s really all about us.”

Stop, enough, you gave us Obama, stop patting yourselves on the back thinking you are the saviors of the world. Every generation has its good and it’s bad. And when people of all ages get fed up enough, the pendulum swings the other way.

Pretty much everything Maddie Evans is postulating is pure bs, starting with her premise that prior generations have been uniformly monocultural and compliant. Zzzzz...zzzz. And how did she fail to recognize when and through whom all this tech originated? Has she pondered the early 1900s at all when physics and relativity were born? Puleeze. Transitional minds have been ubiquitous throughout the ages.
