This tweet is provocative on purpose. Sorry to disappoint but I’m not actually against simple inputs. On the contrary, I love seeing games with a variety of input styles. It’s just important for certain games to recognise whether difficulty was fundamental to its design.

Even with simple inputs you’ll still get your shit wrecked not knowing how to play a fighting game. 🤷🏽‍♂️

It depends how it's done. As far as i'm concerned, SF4 and KOFXV both prove that you can make the game more accessible to beginners without sacrificing the high-level play. It's probably a question of gradient and how it's done

Honestly, I'm at a point where I don't care whether motion inputs stays or leaves. Granblu and power rangers made me realize that fighting games are still fun without it.

The problem with fighting games has never really been the difficulty. While yes, the difficulty is a deterrent to some, so is the difficulty of souls games, league, rts’s and such. The real problem stems from poor marketing and single player content. Many fighting games (1/2)

Tennis.. If you've ever played with a wooden racquet, you know that despite the users skill level, a modern racquet will do its utmost to hit the ball over the net for you. It's still up to you to win the game. Old gen players complained, but today, no pro would ever use wood.

Tennis players dont have to play against a buffer system, it's all on them. In a fighting game you can input a DP and not get it because the game decides when it does or doesn't accept inputs, so either remove motion inputs so moves are spammable into the buffer or adjust buffer

But what about allowing people with disabilities play the game? This isn’t the game fault. This is the player who choose to take the easy way out to win

There are plenty of ways to handle this that haven’t been explored in gaming. Physical sports have Paralympic Games and agreed rule sets. Anyway, I’m not against simple controls, just don’t want the trend to lead to *all* fighting games using them.
