Yeah, they really can be. The Atlantic throws some serious wind and rain at Ireland, especially in the west and along the coast. Winter storms can get pretty intense—flooding, downed trees, power outages. Were you caught in one recently, or just talking about them in general.;

FACT Ireland experiences some of the strongest recorded wind gusts in Europe. In December 2011, during Storm Friedhelm, a gust of 159 km/h (99 mph) was recorded at Malin Head, Ireland’s northernmost point. The storm was part of a powerful cyclonic system known as a "weather bomb", common in the North Atlantic. Ireland’s position on the edge of the Atlantic makes it a frequent target for such intense weather systems, especially in winter.
