Shortly after 9 a.m., animal care staff presented her with a special panda-friendly fruitsicle cake made by the Zoo’s Department of Nutrition Science. Commissary keepers crafted the multi-tiered cake using frozen-diluted beet, pineapple and apple juices mixed with water. A giant number 4 adorned the cake, which was decorated with some of Qing Bao's favorite treats, including apples, shredded carrots, sweet potato puree, blueberries, strawberries and peaches. Virtual visitors tuned into the Zoo’s Giant Panda Cam, sponsored by The Boeing Company, to watch Qing Bao enjoy her birthday festivities. . . . 🎉🎂 Qing Bao took a very mindful, very demure journey to her party. Keepers hung her birthday gift—a new navy blue jolly ball—from a tree branch. Near the cake were several pink, purple and yellow enrichment boxes, each with a special message. After she batted the ball from the tree, Qing Bao ambled over to the box branded with “QB Pie 🥧” and nibbled on the corners. Soon, she spotted the “4-Ever Sweet” box and ripped into it, revealing the cooked sweet potato hidden inside. She saved her fruitsicle cake for last, plucked the “4” off the top, and sampled a few fruits. Then, she climbed a tree and nestled into the fork for a post-party snooze. . . . ❤️🐼 This marks Qing Bao’s first birthday at the Zoo since she arrived in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 15, 2024 with male giant panda Bao Li, who turned 4 on Aug. 4. I just got back from a 5 day trip to visit San Francisco. I met 1 billionaire, 30 founders and startups execs from Google, Meta and Apple. 11 honest observations from having 50+ meetings in San Francisco this week: 1. Bryan Johnson is a hero in SF. The guy who spends $2M/year on “not dying”. I met lots of people who were on his “blueprint” and drizzling his $60 olive oil over everything. He has obtained cult-like status in SF. Literally zero people talk about Bryan where I live. 2. People are still drunk on venture capital. A buddy of mine recently moved to SF from Florida. This is a guy who runs a bootstrapped 7 figure year cash-flowing tech-enabled business. Now, all of a sudden he’s got a term sheet from a leading VC. And he’ll be on the VC treadmill. Forget dividends, pray for exit, my guy. He’ll probably take the deal too. Most founders I spoke to mentioned valuation more than profit. Most founders I spoke to name dropped VCs who they work with. It’s a status thing. Somehow VCs made it fashionable to be in the VC-backed world. Even with 2023 being a bloodshed with VC funding. It doesn’t matter. My takeaway: if you’re in SF long enough (even if you’re a bootstrapper), you’ll probably raise a round. Everyone wants to raise money and optimize that valuation. 3. Everyone is “crushing it” but not really at all. It was hard to find people who would actually tell me how things are going. Virtually everyone I spoke to told me they were “crushing it” or some version of that. The reality is being an entrepreneur is 3% crushing it and 97% being crushed (if you’re lucky). What is it about SF that makes people do this? 4. There is renewed interest in hardware. Maybe thanks to products like the Humane AI pin, Rabbit R1 etc. I met some cool 19 year old founders who are 3D printing a device and partner with creators for distribution with a 30% affiliate cute. Probably will do $2M this year. They raised $100k for some odd reason. But, I chatted with a bunch of founders interested in experimenting with hardware that would cash-flow and would be relatively asset light businesses. I expect to see more interesting low-cost ($50-$200) pieces of hardware with software subscriptions ($9-$29/month) coming up with startups who haven’t raised a ton. 5. Uber/Lyft drivers are confronting Waymo. I was at a stoplight in a regular uber with a guy 70 year old driver named Pedro. Pedro looks to his right. It’s a self-driving Waymo car. He goes: “my days are numbered. He puts his foot on the gas and tries to cutoff the Waymo and starts laughing. This human vs robot saga is probably going to get weirder. 6. It’s AI-mania. I thought just from being on X that I knew, but you really get sense for how many people are building in AI. It feels like almost everyone. 7. Most people think I’m crazy for running cash-flowing businesses. BUT there is growing intrigue about owning a portfolio of cash-flowing internet assets. It’s still fringe, but I threw an event and 600 people showed up to talk about multipreneurship. Lots of those people felt like outsiders in the land of VC. It turns out, not everyone's sold on the VC dream. 8. Very few people drink alcohol. I lived in SF from 2012-2019. Probably 10x the amount of people drinking alcohol drinking 3x the amount of alcohol. Everyone is “sober” but everyone is on some form of “organic” drug like mushrooms. 9. I asked a billionaire what his biggest regret was: His response was short and sweet: "I wish I wrote more down". You'll never remember all the ups and downs. Write it down. Got me thinking – you'll appreciate it in 5 years. Even more in 25. 10. Lots still think content creators are low status. In SF, running a unicorn is high status, creating content is still pretty low status. 11. People are going into offices. I work remote, but lots of the fast-growing startups offices I went to were packed with people and buzz. It was a vibe. Lots more observations. But these were top of mind. I just got back from a 5 day trip to visit San Francisco. I met 1 billionaire, 30 founders and startups execs from Google, Meta and Apple. 11 honest observations from having 50+ meetings in San Francisco this week: 1. Bryan Johnson is a hero in SF. The guy who spends $2M/year on “not dying”. I met lots of people who were on his “blueprint” and drizzling his $60 olive oil over everything. He has obtained cult-like status in SF. Literally zero people talk about Bryan where I live. 2. People are still drunk on venture capital. A buddy of mine recently moved to SF from Florida. This is a guy who runs a bootstrapped 7 figure year cash-flowing tech-enabled business. Now, all of a sudden he’s got a term sheet from a leading VC. And he’ll be on the VC treadmill. Forget dividends, pray for exit, my guy. He’ll probably take the deal too. Most founders I spoke to mentioned valuation more than profit. Most founders I spoke to name dropped VCs who they work with. It’s a status thing. Somehow VCs made it fashionable to be in the VC-backed world. Even with 2023 being a bloodshed with VC funding. It doesn’t matter. My takeaway: if you’re in SF long enough (even if you’re a bootstrapper), you’ll probably raise a round. Everyone wants to raise money and optimize that valuation. 3. Everyone is “crushing it” but not really at all. It was hard to find people who would actually tell me how things are going. Virtually everyone I spoke to told me they were “crushing it” or some version of that. The reality is being an entrepreneur is 3% crushing it and 97% being crushed (if you’re lucky). What is it about SF that makes people do this? 4. There is renewed interest in hardware. Maybe thanks to products like the Humane AI pin, Rabbit R1 etc. I met some cool 19 year old founders who are 3D printing a device and partner with creators for distribution with a 30% affiliate cute. Probably will do $2M this year. They raised $100k for some odd reason. But, I chatted with a bunch of founders interested in experimenting with hardware that would cash-flow and would be relatively asset light businesses. I expect to see more interesting low-cost ($50-$200) pieces of hardware with software subscriptions ($9-$29/month) coming up with startups who haven’t raised a ton. 5. Uber/Lyft drivers are confronting Waymo. I was at a stoplight in a regular uber with a guy 70 year old driver named Pedro. Pedro looks to his right. It’s a self-driving Waymo car. He goes: “my days are numbered. He puts his foot on the gas and tries to cutoff the Waymo and starts laughing. This human vs robot saga is probably going to get weirder. 6. It’s AI-mania. I thought just from being on X that I knew, but you really get sense for how many people are building in AI. It feels like almost everyone. 7. Most people think I’m crazy for running cash-flowing businesses. BUT there is growing intrigue about owning a portfolio of cash-flowing internet assets. It’s still fringe, but I threw an event and 600 people showed up to talk about multipreneurship. Lots of those people felt like outsiders in the land of VC. It turns out, not everyone's sold on the VC dream. 8. Very few people drink alcohol. I lived in SF from 2012-2019. Probably 10x the amount of people drinking alcohol drinking 3x the amount of alcohol. Everyone is “sober” but everyone is on some form of “organic” drug like mushrooms. 9. I asked a billionaire what his biggest regret was: His response was short and sweet: "I wish I wrote more down". You'll never remember all the ups and downs. Write it down. Got me thinking – you'll appreciate it in 5 years. Even more in 25. 10. Lots still think content creators are low status. In SF, running a unicorn is high status, creating content is still pretty low status. 11. People are going into offices. I work remote, but lots of the fast-growing startups offices I went to were packed with people and buzz. It was a vibe. Lots more observations. But these were top of mind. Some may call it an upset, but Chadron St simply calls it another day at the office, beating the #9/#11 Western CO Mountaineers on Saturday (11/8/25) in OT by a score of 27-24. Chadron got it done in all three phases of the game. The Eagles’ offense presented a balanced attack, gaining 111 yards and 2 TDs passing to go along with 148 yards and 1 TD rushing. The Eagles’ defense held the Mountaineers to a mere 38 yards rushing, had 7 tackles for loss, including 3 sacks, and came up with a fumble recovery and 2 interceptions. The most impressive part of Chadron’s team on Saturday had to be its special teams. The Eagles’ special teams blocked two field goal attempts and blocked a punt. Punter Brodie Eisenbraun stuck one punt inside the 5, drew a running into the punter penalty for a 1st down, and had an amazing run off of a high snap, which while it was not a 1st down, it shows what a stud he is. Then there is Kicker Wilson Yee. Yee made an impressive 50 yard FG in the 2nd quarter. Then, in OT, with ice in his veins, Yee made the biggest kick of his collegiate career, drilling a 47 yard FG to give the Eagles the win.
