This is Copper and Nitric acid, they use it to enhance the aroma of their spices until such a point your tastebuds get Chernobyl'd into oblivion. Also to get a soft high. We interviewed a local:

It is the fault of the British for teaching them how to build sewage and sanitation systems. Reparations now!

That's either bromine or fuming nitric acid. There is nothing on earth that is safe in any way if it looks like that.

Two major and distinct "strange gas leaks" have occurred in India in recent decades, with both earning international attention. The first and most devastating was the Bhopal disaster in 1984, the world's worst industrial catastrophe. The second was the Vizag gas leak in 2020. Bhopal gas tragedy (1984) What happened: On the night of December 2–3, 1984, a Union Carbide India Limited pesticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, leaked over 40 tons of the highly toxic methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas. Cause: The disaster was caused by multiple safety failures and human error. Water entered a storage tank containing MIC, triggering an explosive runaway reaction that overwhelmed the plant's safety systems. Many of the safety features were either malfunctioning, insufficient, or turned off at the time. Impact: The toxic cloud settled over densely populated areas near the factory, exposing hundreds of thousands of people. Deaths: At least 3,787 immediate deaths were officially confirmed, though some estimates place the initial toll as high as 10,000. The long-term death toll from chronic illnesses is estimated to be over 20,000. Injuries: Over 558,000 people were injured, with many suffering from respiratory problems, blindness, and other permanent disabilities. Aftermath: The aftermath of the tragedy involved legal battles over corporate accountability and compensation, persistent environmental contamination of the site, and ongoing health issues for survivors and subsequent generations. Vizag gas leak (2020) What happened: In the early morning hours of May 7, 2020, styrene vapor leaked from an LG Polymers chemical plant in the city of Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh. Cause: The leak occurred as workers were preparing to reopen the plant following the COVID-19 lockdown. Initial investigations suggest a cooling system malfunction caused the styrene monomer in a storage tank to vaporize rapidly. Impact: The vapor cloud spread over a 3-kilometer radius, sickening thousands of people who were mostly asleep at the time. Deaths: 13 people were killed. Injuries: Over 1,000 people were hospitalized with symptoms like nausea, dizziness, and respiratory problems. Aftermath: The incident was a reminder of India's ongoing struggle with industrial safety. State authorities evacuated nearby villages, provided compensation to the victims, and launched an investigation into the company.

Are we near Bopal by any chance? Because back then the gas leak killed everybody in the neighbouring area. Are we sure he died for real?
