Not strange. I remember it. Before widespread use of the Internet, the story surfaced that he was ill on the trip and then the video emerged and more details.

Anyone over 40 remembers this and SNL and late night comedians made jokes about it until Bush Sr. left office.

After collapsing, he walked to his private car as he left in the middle of the dinner. The following day, the morning edition of The Asahi Shimbun reported on its front page, “President Bush collapsed and left the dinner.” It was big news primarily because it was a presidential election year in the United States. According to a top-secret official telegram conveying the exchange, Bush said he did not remember fainting at all. The last thing he remembered was seeing a beautiful light and feeling like he was in a quiet heaven, Bush said.

I remember this. I think they blamed it on the sushi.

While attending a banquet hosted by Japanese prime minister Kiichi Miyazawa on January 8, 1992, American president George H. W. Bush fainted after vomiting onto Miyazawa's pants at around 20.20 JST. Doctors later attributed the incident to a case of acute gastroenteritis. Bush visited Tokyo to attend the Japan-U.S. summit in early January 1992. The U.S. president was 67 years old at the time.

WTH....it was lead story on news. The late night hosts all made fun of it.

How could the narrator missed it? The media mocked Bush incessantly over this incident. I remember being amazed that they showed so little concern for his health and just wanted to make him look bad to benefit Clinton.
