The more I think about this the more I believe the Duffer brothers forgot what the show was actually about. They sold out for special effects and action over story. They lost their way with Vecna and simply forgot about key characters from season 4 and even season 5. Linda Hamilton was the best example of this. Entertaining yes… but lost its heart and soul.
