Two of the candidates for leadership of the Tory party are black. The leader is a Hindu of Indian heritage. Our current foreign secretary is black. You might have heard him mention it. None of this is controversial in the UK, because most people care about ability, not race.

It should be clearly understood, as we have previously stated, that the hijab is not a form of fashion or cultural display, but a religious obligation in Islam. We therefore call on you, in the strongest terms, to urgently put an end to any form of discrimination or harassment against Muslim candidates in matters that are central to their faith. Are you expecting them to appear in examination halls without proper covering or to expose parts of their bodies? In our religion, this is not permissible, and we will not comply with such requirements.
