It may seem strange that a pagan philosopher appears in a panel of a window in a Catholic Church. However, Aristotle’s presence in the window dedicated to St. Albert is not out of harmony with the spirit of Christian art. St. Albert and his most famous pupil, St. Thomas Aquinas, used the works of Aristotle freely in the development of scholastic philosophy. For a pagan born centuries before the light of Christian revelation, Aristotle was indeed a genius. Unaided by revelation, he arrived at a system of philosophy and natural theology based upon principles, many of which are, to this day and ever will be, sound and indisputable. The world owes a great debt to this distinguished Greek scholar, and scholastic philosophers look upon him with admiration. In the window at St. Vincent's, Aristotle appears in the traditional attire of a Greek scholar. He holds a scroll inscribed with the Greek word "Metaphysical," a reference to his influential writings on metaphysics, which St. Albert made extensive use of in his own work. ————————— 📽️ & ✍️ Parish of St. Vincent Ferrer and St. Catherine of Siena

David Clayton-Thomas, the lead singer of Blood, Sweat & Tears, has died. On songs like "Spinning Wheel," "And When I Die" and others, Clayton-Thomas brought a bluesy tenor to a band known for its genre-bending sound. They played at Woodstock in 1969, and a year later won the Grammy for Album of the Year, beating out the Beatles' "Abbey Road." Clayton-Thomas split with the group in 1972 and went on to release more than a dozen solo albums. His publicist says David Clayton-Thomas died Wednesday in Toronto. He was 84.

The City of Brampton has led the conversation in Canada for international students visas to be linked to housing, and we are pleased that Algoma University is expanding their footprint in Brampton with the building of a new student residence with over 500 beds. This is exactly what we hoped for. Located at Park St and Nelson Street West, it will be a short walk to the downtown campus, providing safe, affordable housing for students. Last week ACP California held their first event at Stanford University to connect with students and begin the formation of an ACP student league. Students relaxed, played sports, ate food, and spoke about topics including America’s failing two-party system, unjust American wars, and the bleak job prospects faced by most students. The alternative enumerated in ACP’s program gave the students hope and inspired them to join with us. Learn more at

The Lefty Gomez Award isn't given simply for wins or championships. It's reserved for those whose lifetime of service has left a lasting mark on the game of baseball. The ABCA is proud to announce ABCA Hall of Famer John Anderson as the 2027 recipient of the prestigious ABCA / Wilson Baseball & Softball Lefty Gomez Award. Over nearly five decades at the University of Minnesota, through his leadership with USA Baseball, and in countless ways behind the scenes, Anderson's impact has reached far beyond one program. His influence has been felt by coaches, student-athletes and the game itself at the local, national and international levels. For those that had the privilege to see the greatness of linebacker Derrick Thomas in person, they will remember the significance of what happened 37 years ago when the Alabama Football legend ensured the Crimson Tide would not lose in an 8-3 victory over Penn State on Oct. 22, 1988, inside Legion Field. Thomas terrorized Penn State’s Tony Sacca all afternoon and finished with three sacks, nine quarterback hurries, eight tackles and almost outscored the Nittany Lions by himself with a fourth-quarter safety. Led by the heroic performance, the Crimson Tide defense allowed just 21 yards in the second half. In the 1988 season, Thomas won the Butkas Award as the nation’s top linebacker and finished with a staggering 27 sacks. To put that in perspective, Alabama as a team had 25 sacks last season with one extra game. “We made some changes at halftime to free Derrick Thomas,” Alabama head coach Bill Curry said. “Once Derrick Thomas is flying around, all kinds of things happen. They start looking for him. It’s a real nightmare when there’s a player like that on the other team.” CBS televised the defensive slugfest and announcer Brent Musburger described Thomas’s afternoon as, “the most dominating performance I’ve ever seen by a college player.” Philip Doyle scored the only offensive points for Alabama with a 39-yard field goal in the second quarter, before giving the Crimson Tide a 6-3 lead with a 35-yard field goal in the third quarter. Thomas added his safety early in the fourth quarter and a late quarterback hurry ended Penn State’s final offensive series when Lee Ozmint intercepted Sacca. Penn State finished with just 169 yards of total offense (98 passing, 71 rushing) and eight first downs.
