Students with disabilities are students first. The Admin's plan to move programs for these students out of the Dept of Ed will hamper student services, increase backlogs, & make it harder to protect against discrimination. A terrible decision for students & their families.

Maryland Democrats just cut roughly $126 MILLION from the agency serving people with developmental disabilities — a reduction advocates say could mean about $252 MILLION once lost federal matching funds are counted. But now you’re suddenly the guardian of disabled students because Trump is involved? If students with disabilities are “students first,” then Marylanders with disabilities should’ve been people first when Annapolis wrote the budget. Apparently disability funding only becomes sacred when there’s a Republican to blame.

Inclusion is part of DEI, which we all know is bad. All three letters. It's a big part of what's killing our schools. One disruptive student can and does ruin entire classes.

The Department of Education hasn’t done much to improve education for anyone. I wouldn’t rely on them to spend a single dollar in an efficient way.

The Dept. of Education is Jimmy Carters personal abortion. Since its founding America has gone from Best Education in the world to worse than a number of developing nations. Nobody working for the Dept. has educated a single student at sny level. It just adds 2 layers of overhead costs to every level of education it touches. The Department of Education is the problem. Before the Dept of Ed USA was #1. Now we are 17th. Students cannot read or do math by 9th grade.

Students with disabilities deserve better outcomes, not the same failed federal bureaucracy that has shortchanged them for decades. The Department of Education has never delivered on the IDEA promise of 40% federal funding..it's hovered around 11-15%. Achievement gaps persist, many states need assistance meeting basic requirements, and families already fight through fragmented systems and backlogs. Pretending the status quo protected kids is the real gaslighting. Moving special education functions toward HHS (while rights under the law stay intact) aims to cut silos, better coordinate with existing disability, health, early intervention, and vocational rehab programs, and reduce the micromanagement that hasn't closed gaps. Students remain students first; the law still requires a free appropriate public education. The difference is ending the fiction that one underperforming Washington agency was the only thing standing between kids and success.

You have no clue about programs for students with disabilities! While the DOE does provide some funding for these services, it does not hire teachers and other staff or buy classroom materials. Local school districts do all of that!

I taught 38 years. Students with disabilities are mainstreamed for years. Student services will be better because run by the state, closer to their needs.
