Ethan Roberts has posted a 0.60 ERA over his first 15.0 IP this season. He’s sporting a new-look cutter: +1.6 mph +4.4” IVB -1.8” HB With added carry, it’s played very well off his sweeper. His 66.7% GB% ranks 2nd in MLB among pitchers with at least 15.0 IP.

Strikeout sequence from new Marlins LHP Kade Bragg. Bragg was one of the better relief-only prospects in the Twins system last season and has a 2.74 ERA in his MiLB career (75.2 IP). 6'1" with above-average extension. Fastball velo about 93 mph and mainly pitches off of that.

The Blue Jays are selecting Arizona State LHP Cole Carlon at 39. Ranked #33 on Baseball America's top 500 big board, Carlon features an upper 90s fastball that sits 96 and has touched 101. His power slider is a 70 grade offering that generated a 56% miss rate. Monster two pitch mix while toying around with a upper 70s curve and high 80s changeup which need refinement. He will need to find a third pitch and refine his command to remain a starter but the stuff is off the charts.

Jay Allmer (21yo) deserves an opportunity with an affiliate team. Over the course of the offseason Jay has worked hard w/ both coach @praisepitching & Mason Feole to turn himself into one of, if not the most intriguing non-drafted college players & current FAs from last year. He performed highly in the MLB Draft League serving up 21 IP, 2.14 ERA 17K-5 BBs including 8 SVs & 3Ws, yet he operated last summer averaging just 90.8. Now... he has averaged roughly 94 in his bullpens. Up significantly from his in game averages, & prior bullpen PR of 92. Which has also featured Jay routinely running both fastball shapes (FS/SK) up to 95. The jump into averaging 94 has been a relatively recent one. After the new year Jay worked on cleaning up his posture & positioning of the torso during his drop in order to avoid over counter-rotating which was forcing him to pull heavily east-west & direct less energy towards the plate. He significantly improved his take away to leverage more of a linear path & a slightly higher lead arm in order to maintain his stack trunk positioning without tilting back into lumbar/lower back extension during his leg lift into drop phase. With an elite 3 pitch mix, including an 84 mph sweeper, someone needs to get this guy signed.

Shifting focus to 2025, RHP Tyler Bremner (UC Santa Barbara Baseball) is one of my favorite College arms in the class. As a freshman, Bremner split time between the bullpen and the rotation and pitched his way to a modest 5.37 ERA with an impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio of 80-to-17 across 55.1 innings. Bremner has a lean, athletic build at 6'2" and 180-lbs. He has room to fill out physically and as he does, his already-electric stuff will only tick up. Bremner has a low maintenance, under control operation with present arm speed. He attacks hitters from a high-three quarter slot and his fastball sits in the 93-96 range and tops out at 98. It has elite riding life (averaged over 21" of IVB in '23) and is most effective when located in the top-half of the zone. Between its velocity and shape, it is a 60-grade offering. He boasts two quality secondary offerings in a mid-80s changeup and low-80s slider. Bremner’s changeup is the more polished of the two, but his sweeping slider has plus potential. In 2023, Bremner’s changeup generated an impressive 48% miss rate. He has advanced feel for the offering, and he will throw it to both left and righthanded hitters. It plays well off his mid-90s fastball and flashes big time late tumbling life and some fade to the arm side. Bremner threw his slider just 12% of the time in 2023, but it has the chance to be a true out pitch in the future. It features ample late sweeping life as well as some depth, and is a real weapon especially against righthanded hitters. It has reportedly taken a step forward this fall and could be a lethal offering in 2024. Between his plus control, low effort delivery, and the chance to have three plus or better pitches, Bremner profiles as a starter professionally.
