Actually i believe it was inspired by this, billingham industrial skyline. Viewable from hartlepool in the north east of England where both of the Scott brothers (and me) went to art college.

One of the most stunning scenes in a sci-fi movie. I've watched the movie probably over 100 times but always rewind to this cityscape scene.

I can hear the song even on mute. Masterpiece.

I saw a vid about how it that shot was made. They constructed a model of the city, and had a mechanism for the camera to "fly" through it.
