🛕Recently I visited the Largest Hindu Temple in the U.S. - BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham, NJ It is the second largest Hindu Temple in the world. 🚙Since I live in NYC I don't have a car, however "j know a guy", with an SUV, he's my friend Renzo. I conveniently traveled with his company New Yorker Tours! It's only an hour and a half from Manhattan. I truly recommend going to see this incredible Temple and taking New Yorker Tours to see it! 😀 Nestled in Robbinsville, New Jersey, the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham stands as the largest Hindu temple in the United States and the second largest globally. Spanning over 183 acres, this architectural marvel was constructed over 12 years, involving 12,500 volunteers who dedicated millions of hours. 🏗️ Architectural Splendor: • Built using over 1.9 million cubic feet of interlocking stone, including marble from Greece, Turkey, and Italy; pink sandstone from Rajasthan; granite from India; and limestone from Bulgaria and Turkey. Features 548 intricately carved marble pillars and the largest constructed elliptical dome in a traditional stone mandir. The central shrine houses a 15.5-foot tall sacred image of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, crafted from panchdhatu (an alloy of five metals). 🌿 Sustainable Design: Incorporates a six-acre solar farm supplying electricity to the campus. Utilizes fly ash concrete mix and features heated stone floors for energy efficiency. Location & Travel: 📍Location: Approximately 65 miles southwest of New York City, about a 1.5-hour drive. Fun Facts: • The temple's design follows ancient Hindu scriptures, reflecting thousands of years of inspiring thoughts, values, and culture. • The campus includes the Nilkanth Plaza, featuring a 49-foot tall bronze sacred image of Nilkanth Varni, the teenage form of Swaminarayan. • The Brahma Kund, a traditional Indian stepwell on the campus, contains sanctified water from over 300 sources, including 108 holy rivers in India. 📸Experience the fusion of spirituality, art, and culture at BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham. A must-visit landmark celebrating devotion and architectural brilliance!
